  1. Class Of 2016 Local Scholarships forCurrent Students ofPomperaug High School

  2. Application Deadline • All applications must be completed and returned to Mrs.Tupy in the: • Career Center by 2:30 p.m. on March 22nd, 2016. • No applications or application attachments will be accepted after this deadline.

  3. Computer Software • Applications must be done in Microsoft Word only. (Some older versions will not work with applications). • Microsoft Works cannotbe used. • If you do not have Microsoft Word at home, you can do applications on school computers. • Applications will not be accepted if the above procedure is not followed.

  4. Application Alterations • Application pages cannot be altered in any way • No returns in document are allowed • Pages cannot run onto other pages

  5. Application Process • Submit one application for each scholarship you are applying to. • Use pull-down menu on page one to indicate which scholarship it is for.

  6. Office Copy • The Counseling Department needs to keep one of each page listed below: • Page 1 • Page 2 • Page 3 (if used) • All Essays • EFC Page (if used) • IRS Form (if used) • If you apply to 10 scholarships, you will have 10 separate applications and 1 office copy.

  7. Application Process • Each application must be stapled. • No paperclips • All information should be typed.

  8. Application Process • If a scholarship is requesting a copy of your transcript, Mrs. Tupy will insert it into your application.

  9. Application Process • Be sure to have a parent/guardian sign the bottom of page one on each application. • If you wait until the last day to complete the applications in school, your parents will not be here to sign the bottom of the first page.

  10. Application Process • Only the following two scholarships require (4) copies of the application. If you are applying to BOTH scholarships, one two copies of each are needed. • Southbury, Middlebury Foundation Scholarship • Delmont and Elfriede Pfeffer Scholarship

  11. How to Access Application and Scholarship Requirements • Go to www.region15.org/phs • Click on School Counseling Dept. tab • Click on Local Scholarships • Be careful not to confuse with Career Center Scholarships

  12. Scholarship Direction PageFirst Page On Internet • For Current PHS Students • ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE COMPLETED AND RETURNED TO THE COUNSELING OFFICE BY 2:30 P.M. ON March 22, 2016. • **No applications will be accepted after this deadline** • Go To: www.region15.org/phs • CLICK ON SCHOOL COUNSELING DEPARTMENT/LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS • If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Tupy in the Counseling Office or e-mail at ctupy@region15.org. • Get Visual Instructions (in PowerPoint) for the application process

  13. Be Sure to Apply! • Apply to any scholarship that you meet the criteria for. • Not all scholarships are based on a good academic record. • Not all scholarships are based on financial need. • There is over $150,000 being given away this year!

  14. Activity FormPage 2 of Application • If you cannot fit all activity information on the Personal Information Page, feel free to attach another page • (except for the Joseph Shanahan Scholarship.Fill in as much information as possible.)

  15. Application ProcessPage 3 • If any scholarship has financial need as a requirement, you must include page 3. • If there is no financial need as a requirement, do not include page 3. • This information can be found on the scholarship detail page.

  16. Essays • All checked essays must be done unless it says to (choose one).

  17. Where to Hand In Envelope • Your applications will only be accepted if they are personally handed to Mrs. Tupy or Mrs. Wells. • Do not give to your school counselor. • Do not drop off on anyone's desk. • Applications will be checked to make sure the correct procedure was followed. If not, they will be handed back to you.

  18. What to Put In the Envelope? • Enclose in the scholarship return envelope you received: • All applications you are applying to • One office copy

  19. Office Copy • The Counseling Department needs to keep one of each page listed below: • Page 1 • Page 2 • Page 3 (if used) • All Essays • EFC Page (if used) • IRS Form (if used) • If you apply to 10 scholarships, do not turn in 10 office copies, only one.

  20. Last Minute • Do not wait until the last minute. • Every year the Career Center is crowded with students completing their applications on the due date which is absolute chaos. • It becomes very stressful for everyone. • Computers are usually all tied up and may not be available. • Students often forget that they need the SAR page or IRS page for certain scholarships. • Don’t get caught in the rush!!
