  2. Ministry of Hospitality Introduction We as the church are 2… known and read by everybody. (2 Cor 3:2) 12So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. (Matt 7:12)

  3. Ministry of Hospitality • Definition of Hospitality • Scriptural commands. • To Israel in the Old Testament. 33 ‘ “When an alien lives with you in your land, do not mistreat him.

  4. Ministry of Hospitality 34The alien living with you must be treated as one of your native-born. Love him as yourself, for you were aliens in Egypt. I am the LORD your God. (Lev 19:33-34)

  5. Ministry of Hospitality • To the New Testament believer. 10Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. (Rom 12:10) 13Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. (Rom 12:13)

  6. Ministry of Hospitality 9Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. (1 Pet 4:9)

  7. Ministry of Hospitality • Practical definition. • Hospitality = “Love of strangers” • Mary and Martha practiced hospitality. 38As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. (Luke 10:38)

  8. Ministry of Hospitality • Lydia, and other early Christians demonstrated this trait. 14One of those listening was a woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message. (Acts 16:14)

  9. Ministry of Hospitality 15 When she and the members of her household were baptized, she invited us to her home. “If you consider me a believer in the Lord,” she said, “come and stay at my house.” And she persuaded us. (Acts 16:15)

  10. Ministry of Hospitality • Priscilla and Aquila were given to hospitality. 26He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately. (Acts 18:26)

  11. Ministry of Hospitality • Angels unaware? 2Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it. (Heb 13:2)

  12. Ministry of Hospitality • Three Groups of People in Need of this Ministry. • The first group is our neighbors. • Remember the parable of the Good Samaritan? 36“Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” (Luke 10:36)

  13. Ministry of Hospitality • Are we ministering to our neighbors? • The second group is the poor. • The third group is of course our friends and our brothers. 10Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. (Gal 6:10)

  14. Ministry of Hospitality • Practical Ways to Minister Hospitality. • Be alert at all times to the opportunities to help others. • Be really interested in other people. • Take an interest in your neighborhood and the others who live there. • Do something for those who are less fortunate than we are.

  15. Ministry of Hospitality • Be motivated by the Spirit of God to minister and not by guilt. • Do not minimize the value of helping someone else. 12So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. (Matt 7:12)

  16. Ministry of Hospitality Conclusion • How is our hospitality towards others? • Are we effectively ministering? • Come and let God have His way in your life.
