  4. More than 100 years of experience • 1897 Société Française des Câbles Electriques • 1917 Becomes Compagnie Générale des Câbles de Lyon • 1925 Merger with Compagnie Générale d’Electricité • 1986 Part of Alcatel: Alcatel Cable • 2000 Creation of Nexans • 2001 First listing on Euronext (Paris) • Continuous growth and acquisitions: Société Industrielle des Téléphones, Thomson-Jeumont Câbles, Kabelmetal Elektro (Germany), Berk Tek (United States), Kukdong (South Korea), Furukawa cabos de Energia SA (Brazil), Liban cables (Lebanon), …

  5. Expertise dedicated to 3 key markets Building Industry Infrastructure

  6. RoW 5 % North of America 17% Asia 5 % Europe 73 % A worldwide leader • 4.9 Billion Euro sales in 2004 • The most complete range of telecom and energy cables and cabling systems Sales by destination* * Based on sales at constant metal prices

  7. Global presence • Plants in 29 countries and commercial activities in 65 countries • 20,000 local experts • Mastery of national and international standards

  8. Grimsås, Sweden

  9. The thinnest cable: diameter of 12 microns The most powerful cable: 550,000 Volts The most resistant cable: up to 1,000°C The longest cable: 125 km The deepest undersea cable: 2,300 m water depth The heaviest cable: 123 kg per meter State of the art technologies

  10. Airbus A380: new generation of passenger aircraft Horns Rev: the biggest offshorewindfarm worldwide Petronas Towers: 2 super skyscrapers in Malaysia Queen Mary II: the biggest cruise ship in the world Transrapid: first magnetic levitation train in Shanghai At the core of advanced technological achievements

  11. Building the future through innovation • 1 international research center • 9 competence centers • 450 researchers, engineers and technicians • 420 families of patents registered • An average of 2 new products per week • Leading position in advanced technologies: • High data transmission capacity • Insulation material • Plastic Optical Fiber • Superconductors • Safety: fire behaviour of cables

  12. Robert Lindqvist Product Manager

  13. Broadband in Power cable?

  14. Networks Solutions 12 & 24kV • Axclight-O TT • Longitudinally and radial watertight • Circular aluminium conductors • XLPE-insulated • Stripable semiconductiv layer • Pe-sheathed • 3 tubes for future installation of optical cables. • 3x25/16, 50/16, 95/16, 150/25, 240/25 mm²

  15. Axclight-O • micropticable • UT 30 (12 fibre) • UB 32 (24 fibre) • MB 0613 (72 fibre) • Installation lengths • UT 30, ca 1600m • UB 32, ca 1600m • MB 0613, ca 1000m

  16. Tube dimension, Axclight-O • 12kV • 25 – 8/6mm • 50, 95 – 10/8mm • 150, 240 – 12/9mm • 24kV • 25 – 8/6mm • 50 – 10/8mm • 95, 150, 240 – 12/9mm

  17. Cable laying • When ploughing, allways prepare the ground by first ploughing once without cable! • A proper and safe installation takes one machine operator and one installer. • Installation temperature • PVC sheathed cable min 0oC (-10oC) • PE sheathed cable min 20oC • Care has to be taken also at elevated temperature due to strong sun light (at 60-70oC the sheath becomes softer and more fragile). • Cable ends shall be sealed during laying. • Max tensile load when pulling cable Al 30 N/mm2 Cu 50 N/mm2 • Electrical test of outer sheath after laying

  18. Networks Solutions, Joint & terminations

  19. Joint & terminations Axclight-O

  20. Joint & terminations Axclight-O • Cable termination • Standard • Sealing complement • Water tight complement Tube joint • Tube is cut with the right tool. All this is typed down in Nexans Installation recomendations

  21. Jointing tube • FESTO • 12mm QS12 • 10mm QS10 • 8mm QS8

  22. Terminations Axclight-O

  23. Blowing the optical cable Optocable UB 32 24 fibre Max lenght 1600 m Blowing tools , Plumettaz MicroJet

  24. Started in 2003 as a idea from the coustomer Measurement and net control Developed to a product in 2004 Reached the 1500m of blowing optical fibre 900km cable in 3 years Today 50km optical cable installed More in the future Sydvestenergi in Denmark has used this technology

  25. ”The future Power net” 30km Axclight-O LT DM

  26. What is the cheapest way to install fibre optical network? Fibre solution Micro Cable? No right answer Not just micro cable Mix different types of installation techniques Traditional, Underground, Aerial & Micro cables

  27. Regional network

  28. Urban network

  29. Area network

  30. Micro Cable = The micro cable is constructed to be blown into small tubes called micro ducts. The small dimension on the cable makes it less protected to outer strain. Up to 96 fibres

  31. HDPE-sheath Suitable in 12/9mm, 10/8mm, 7/5,5mm 5/3,5mm ducts Fibre count, 2 to 96 fibres ITU-T G.652.D fibre

  32. 2-4 fibres UT16 2,5 mm • 2-12 fibres UT30 3,9 mm • 24 fibres UB32 4,0mm • 24-72 fibres MB0613 5,4 mm • 96 fibres MB0814 7,2 mm

  33. Micro duct 7mm 10 mm Installed cabel Micro ducts in optical ducts 1 2 3 Mixed structure Optical duct
