สืบเนื่องจากพระราชเสาวนีย์ของสมเด็จพระนางเจ้าสิริกิติ์พระบรมราชินีนาถได้มีพระราชดำรัสในวันคล้ายวันพระราชสมภพเกี่ยวกับความสำคัญและการสูญเสียของป่าชายเลน เพื่อสนองต่อพระราชดำรัส โครงการฟื้นฟูอุทยานแห่งชาติแหลมสนหลังภัยสึนามิ ซึ่งเป็นโครงการร่วมระหว่างสถาบันวิจัยวิทยาศาสตร์ทางทะเลพลีมัธ และพิพิธภัณฑ์ธรรมชาติศึกษา ประเทศสหราชอาณาจักร กับสถานีวิจัยทรัพยากรชายฝั่งระนอง และภาควิชาวิทยาศาสตร์ทางทะเล มหาวิทยาลัยเกษตรศาสตร์ โดยได้รับเงินทุนจากสหภาพยุโรป ได้กำหนดจัดค่ายผู้นำเยาวชน “รู้และรักษ์ป่าชายเลนของเรา” ขึ้นในระหว่างวันที่ 11-12 สิงหาคม 2550 ณ สถานีวิจัยทรัพยากรชายฝั่งระนอง เพื่อเสริมสร้างชุมชนให้เข้มแข็งในการอนุรักษ์ธรรมชาติ โดยสนับสนุนให้ครูและนักเรียนได้สำรวจความหลากหลายของป่าชายเลน และตระหนักถึงคุณค่าของทรัพยากรธรรมชาติและสิ่งแวดล้อมของตนเอง โดยผู้เข้าร่วมฝึกอบรมประกอบด้วยครูจำนวน 9 คน นักเรียนจำนวน 20 คน จาก 11 โรงเรียนในเขตอุทยานแห่งชาติแหลมสน จังหวัดระนองและจังหวัดพังงา รวมทั้งผู้สนใจทั่วไป ซึ่งผู้จัดการฝึกอบรมครั้งนี้ประกอบด้วยบุคลากรของสถานีวิจัยทรัพยากรชายฝั่งระนอง และภาควิชาวิทยาศาสตร์ทางทะเลจำนวน 18 คน และนิสิตสโมสรโรตาแรคท์ มหาวิทยาลัยเกษตรศาสตร์จำนวน 5 คน รวมทั้งสิ้น 23 คน สรุปค่ายผู้นำเยาวชน
ค่ายผู้นำเยาวชน “รู้และรักษ์ป่าชายเลนของเรา” มีเนื้อหาเกี่ยวข้องกับความรู้ทางด้านทรัพยากรธรรมชาติ ความสำคัญของป่าชายเลน และการเป็นนักสำรวจ ทั้งยังส่งเสริมให้มีการสำรวจและทำกิจกรรมบริเวณป่าชายเลน เพื่อให้ผู้เข้าร่วมฝึกอบรมมีความรู้ความเข้าใจเกี่ยวกับธรรมชาติ และความสำคัญของป่าชายเลนเพิ่มมากขึ้น ทางโครงการฯ หวังเป็นอย่างยิ่งว่าคุณครูสามารถนำความรู้และประสบการณ์ที่ได้ไปใช้ควบคู่กับการเรียนการสอนวิชาวิทยาศาสตร์ธรรมชาติ และนักเรียนสามารถถ่ายทอดองค์ความรู้ที่ได้สู่ผู้ปกครองหรือชุมชนของตนเอง รวมทั้งสามารถนำประสบการณ์และความรู้ที่ได้มาปฏิบัติเพื่อให้สนองต่อพระราชเสาวนีย์ของสมเด็จพระนางเจ้าฯ ดังที่ได้ให้คำมั่นสัญญาว่าจะอนุรักษ์ป่าชายเลนต่อไป สรุปค่ายผู้นำเยาวชน
Summary In response to Her Majesty the Queen’s birthday speech on the importance of mangrove forests and her lament of their loss, the TILS project, (a collaboration between KasetsartUniversity and Plymouth Marine Laboratory & the National History Museum, United Kingdom, sponsored by the European Union) intends to strengthen public awareness of conservation. By encouraging school teachers and students to explore the wonders and diversity of mangrove forests they will begin to appreciate their own resources and environment. The project, therefore, held a marine youth camp, with the title of “Learning & Conservating of Our Mangrove Forest”.
Summary The camp was held at the Ranong Coastal Resource Research Station (RCRRS) during the celebration of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit's birthday also known nationwide as the Mother’s day. The camp was held over 2 days (August 11 -12, 2007).There were 9 teachers and 20 students from 11 schools from within the LaemSonNational Park in Ranong and PhangNgaProvinces attending the camp. Eighteen staffs of the RCRRS and the Department of Marine Science including 5 volunteers of ROTARACT student club of KasetsartUniversity provided the training and organized the activities. The teaching provided knowledge on resources, importance of mangrove forest and how to monitor the mangrove forests. The camp encouraged students to explore and take part in activities in the mangroves themselves, thus gaining practical insights about the forest.
Summary All participants had fun and gained a better understanding of the nature and importance of mangrove forests.The teachers, who attended, will also be able to contribute their experiences during the camp in their future teaching on natural science. Also, the students may pass on this knowledge to their parents who live in the villages along the coastal area. All of them, teachers and students, moreover, felt inspired by the experience and what they learned in reaction to the Queen’s speech that they have made pledge to conserve their mangrove forests.
