  1. Love Run A Community Service Project to benefit the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters Princess Anne High School’s 8th Annual… Audrey Dumadag

  2. What is Love Run? As Second Vice President of Princess Anne High School’s Student Cooperative Association, one of my main duties is to organize the annual Cavalier Love Run/Walk to benefit the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters (CHKD) in Norfolk, Virginia. The event was held at Thalia Elementary School. I began my planning months ahead of the anticipated date of the event, February 11, 2012. This year, we added a small dog race to target more people to come out to the event.

  3. Origins of Love run Eight years ago, the current SCA President of Princess Anne High School was struck with non-hodgkins Lymphoma. The students of Sca were touched by his determination and ability to survive cancer. As a result, they started the annual Cavalier Love Run to benefit the children at CHKD and give back to the local community.

  4. Registration Form To the left is a copy of the Registration form which could be found on the Princess Anne High School Website, outside the SCA office, or the front office.

  5. Duties • AsChairman of Love Run Some of My duties included • Organizing the Volunteer positions and list • Registering the participants • Contacting and following-up with business sponsors • Overseeing the logistics of the event Sarah, Maddie, and Lauren before the run.

  6. In addition to attaining participants, the Love Run Committee and I worked hard throughout the year to find sponsorship from about forty-eight local businesses. For example, I spoke to Ashley Dorey, the CHKD representative, to ask permission to hold a fundraiser for CHKD. I had to collaborate with her, the Principal of Thalia Elementary School, my SCA advisor and officers, and the Love Run Committee to hold the event. Communication Skills/Experience

  7. Organizing Volunteers To organize volunteers, I distributed positions and recorded the volunteers using spreadsheets. Some of their responsibilities included registering participants, working water and Cheer stations, setting up food, and cleaning up. Claire, Allison, Cathryn, and Delandra registering Participants.

  8. Feedback on Experience • As a result, I developed new interpersonal skills that enabled me to communicate well with others involved in the event. I learned skills of delegation to ensure the completion of specific details for the event and communication with sponsoring businesses. Throughout the span of five months, the SCA and I worked diligently and arduously to ensure that the event was successful. I allotted time after school to organize spreadsheets, purchase materials, and contact businesses for this fundraiser.

  9. Results of Love Run • Love Run was able to raise $4150 for CHKD and bring the community for a great cause. The Cheer Volunteers
