About Your Instructor: Education and Work History

Growing up in Minnesota, I had a brief stint in minor league baseball before pursuing my B.S. in chemistry from St. John’s University, followed by an M.S. from the University of Michigan. With 16 years as a medicinal chemist at Elan Pharmaceuticals, I've contributed to over 50 patents focused on Alzheimer’s Disease and Multiple Sclerosis. Now, I'm in my third year teaching at LAHS while juggling family life with three kids and a wife who is a 5th-grade teacher. My hobbies include cooking, gardening, and playing competitive baseball.

Grew up in Minnesota • Very brief minor league baseball career with KC Royals • B.S. in chemistry from small, liberal arts college in MN, St. John’s University • Worked as a chef • M.S. in chemistry from University of Michigan in Ann Arbor • Graduate work at North Dakota State University • Medicinal chemist for 16 years at Elan Pharmaceuticals (Over 50 patents and papers on Alzheimer’s Disease and Multiple Sclerosis) • Teaching credential and M.S degree in Education from Cal State East Bay • Third year at LAHS About Your Instructor: Education and Work History

  2. 3 children - Hunter (19) autistic in special education, Severine (21) studying in Germany, Theresa (23) just graduated from UC Davis with degree in nutrition • Wife (Caroline) is 5th grade teacher (Fremont) and professor of multimedia design at Ohlone Community College • Spend a lot of time in Germany and France because my wife is citizen of those two countries. • Still play competitive baseball in East Bay • Like to garden and cook the stuff I grow • Have three cats and a black lab • My wife thinks I play to many violent video games About You Instructor: Personal
