  1. Chapter EightSPIRITUALITY IN THE HOME

  2. I. PRESENTING YOURSELF BEFORE THE LORD.

  3. A. The TENT and the altar.

  4. 1. Your “tent” should be your PRAYER closet.

  5. a. Your “prayer closet” can be anywhere you can get ALONE with God.

  6. 2. True and effective love for ministry can only come from the freshness of a maintained Spirit-filled life and regular…

  7. …COMMUNION with Christ.

  8. II. YOU IN FASTING AND PRAYER.

  9. A. Spiritual DISCIPLINES.

  10. 1. Parents must openly set the EXAMPLE of regular prayer time and fasting when necessary, as their children look on…

  11. …and, in some cases, participate.

  12. 2. It is good that we learn to deny ourselves and FAST every so often, especially when God leads us to do so.

  13. a. We ought to maintain REGULAR times of fasting and prayer.

  14. b. Prayer and fasting is a very PERSONAL time with God that should not be shared with anyone.

  15. c. Even though it was recommended for a short season, it still was IMPORTANT enough to interrupt intimacy for a while.

  16. 3. Learn to pour your HEART out to God when fasting and praying.

  17. a. There will be times you fail for words as you intercede, but God hears the heart’s cry, and the Spirit Himself, makes INTERCESSION for you.

  18. 4. Fulfill your responsibilities as a husband and father, or a wife and mother, but never allow any of your duties to…

  19. …INTERFERE with your personal and spiritual disciplines and devotions.

  20. III. YOU AND THE WORD.

  21. A. Our philosophy, politics and everything in our lifestyle must conform to the final AUTHORITY – the Word of God.

  22. B. The living Word in CRISIS.

  23. 1. The Word has our promise in the time of SICKNESS.

  24. 2. Our INTEGRITY during crisis will keep our homes in order.

  25. a. The way we BEHAVE during a major trial in our family will refelct upon the rest of the family.

  26. IV. YOU AND YOUR PRIORITIES.

  27. A. ANXIETY distracts from spiritual priorities.

  28. 1. “Anxiety” is the fear of LACKING the necessities of life.

  29. 2. There should be no area in our life where we FORGET the Lord.

  30. B. DESIRE for more also distracts from spiritual priorities.

  31. 1. We must always remember that God is our SOURCE.

  32. C. Responsible INDEPENDENCE is declared each time a home is established.

  33. 1. True independence is the right to behave RESPONSIBLY.

  34. a. You are responsible for your devotions, prayers, church participation, and other spiritual DUTIES.

  35. b. If you are allowing other circumstances to interfere with your priority to God and His KINGDOM, you are failing in your responsibility as an overseer in your home.

  36. V. THE PROPER RELATIONSHIP.

  37. A. Your relationship with the CHURCH.

  38. 1. In the Old Testament, the tabernacle was the CENTER of activity.

  39. 2. The same Word that blesses and honors the marriage vow, warning of its desecration in the end time, also warns that we are…

  40. …not to forsake the ASSEMBLING of ourselves together as the end approaches.

  41. a. God’s Church – His BODY – is to be the force around which our lives are to revolve.

  42. b. Each believer is gifted spiritually for the service of MINISTRY within the body of Christ.

  43. c. Such service cannot be rendered if one is not involved with a church FAMILY.

  44. B. Your relationship with the Church’s LEADERS.

  45. 1. The members of the home should always understand the ROLE of the God-called leaders and pastor of their church.

  46. a. Such positions are installed by God, to “equip,” or “bring to MATURITY,” the saints of God.

  47. 2. Every home needs a PASTOR.

  48. a. Every home should be spiritually ACCOUNTABLE to the leadership of a local assembly.

  49. C. God’s Kingdom and principles must be top PRIORITY.
