How do you know that you are having colon cancer???? • Symptoms: • Bowel habits changing (constipation & diarrhea) • Bleeding in stool • Test: - Blood test and X-ray - Colonoscopy The colonoscopy is a procedure whereby a doctor inserts a long, flexible viewing tube into the rectum for the purpose of inspecting the inside of the entire colon.

Treatment : • Surgery - medical specialty that uses operative manual and instrumental techniques on a patient to investigate and/or treat a pathological condition • Chemotherapy – given after surgery to kill cancer cells • Laser treatment - the use of monochromatic light emission from a low intensity laser diode (250 milliwatts or less) or an array of high intensity super luminous diodes (providing total optical power in the 1000-2000 milliwatt range).

  10. Causes of Colon cancer: Eating a lot of meat When you eat a lot of meat, you can uptake a lot of animal fat. animal fat is high in saturated fatty acids. Eating a lot of fried meat and Junkie food We cook meat in high temperature, meat make dangerous substances, and it boosts the chances of getting cancer. Lack of exercise Do physical work or workout make bowel’s peristalsis actively, and it makes food go through bowel fast unless it would be slowly.

  11. Environment can be helpful: • Avoid eating red meat excessively • Cut down the amount of fat you eat. • Make time to exercise, • Eat a lot of vitamin D

Vocabulary • Colon : colon is the part of your intestine above your rectum • Bowel habits : bowels are the tubes in your body through which digested food passes from your stomach to your anus. ; habits in bowel movement • loose bowels : a lot of liquid feces comes out of their body because they are ill. • Constipation : a medical condition which causes people to have difficulty getting rid of solid waste from their body. • Diarrhea : a lot of liquid feces comes out of their body because they are ill. • Abdominal : It is used to describe something that is situated in the abdomen or forms part of it • stomach cramps : a sudden strong pain caused by a muscle suddenly contracting in stomach

Vocabulary • Stool : the pieces of solid waste matter that are passed out of a person's body through their bowels.[ mainly MEDICAL ] (=feces) • Anemia : a medical condition in which there are too few red cells in your blood, causing you to feel tired and look pale. • Chemotherapy : It is a systemic therapy, meaning that the medication travels throughout the body to destroy cancer cells. • Mouth sores: cold sores (also called fever blisters. Cold sores are caused by herpes simplex virus and are very contagious • Nausea: is the sensation of unease and discomfort in the upper stomach and head with an urge to vomit. • Obstruction: is the act of blocking or impeding some performance • Obesity: is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have an adverse effect on health, leading to reduced life expectancy and/or increased health problems

Vocabulary • Hereditary colon cancer syndromes: is the most common of the hereditary colorectal cancer syndromes, and is the result of defects in the mismatch repair genes. • Occult blood test: is a term for blood present in the faeces that is not visibly apparent • Saturated fatty acids : Saturated fatty acids are a long-chain carboxylic acid that usually has between 12 and 24 carbon atoms that has no double bonds • Carcinogens : any substance that is an agent directly involved in the growing of cancer • Dietary fiber : indigestible portion of plant foods that pushes food through the digestive system, absorbs water and eases bowel movement. • Peristalsis : symmetrical contraction of muscles which propagates in a wave down the muscular tube
