  2. Industrial Revolution Definition: A long, slow process which completely changed the way goods were made. Machines replaced hand tools Steam power replaced human and animal power Gradual shift from agriculture to manufacturing. Rural to Urban population shift

  3. Inventions Necessitate Inventions The following inventions all caused the invention of the following one. All of this had already occurred in Britain Spinning wheel – one thread Spinning Jenny – several threads Water frame – 100 spindles of thread Loom – produced 200 times more than a human **many of these were large and had to be located by water (used water as power source for machines)

  4. Inventions Necessitate Factories Large places to hold inventions by water. Buildings had to be put up. Building factories was very expensive Capitalist: a person who invests in a business in order to make a profit. Factory System: workers and machinery together in one place to produce goods. Britain wanted all this to remain secret…..

  5. WHY??????? HOW?????? Why does Britain want to keep this a secret? How did Samuel Slater bring the factory system to the U.S.?
