This presentation invites group input on preferences for querying through probe frames and GAS frames. The summary addresses previous discussions on designs that incorporate querying within probe frames, highlighting that the current draft D0.01 does not encapsulate these considerations. The potential for service discovery using probe frames is explored, which may streamline the process by ensuring only access points (APs) that offer relevant services respond, contrasting with the more extensive requirements of GAS frames. Participation is encouraged through a straw poll on this topic.

Brief Queries in Probe Frames Date:2013-07-17 Authors: RYU Cheol, ETRI
Abstract This presentation asks to the group for the preferences on querying using probe frames as well as GAS frames. RYU Cheol, ETRI
Summary of Previous Discussions • We discussed a few designs which includes querying in probe frames. Which can be referred in IEEE 802.11-14/162. • But current draft D0.01 does not reflect the discussion to use probe frames to discover services. • Service discovery with probe frames could reduce the number of probe frames, because only the APs which provide certain services response to the probe request frame . • Comparing with the service discoveries with GAS frames, it does not require to find APs to query. Straw Poll #1: PAD with Probe frames • Do you agree that we have to consider to use probe frames as well as GAS frames to discover services? • Yes • No • Abstain RYU Cheol, ETRI
