Learn from our leaders about the Public Health Path of Distinction, leadership in medicine, and upcoming events related to nutrition and healthy living. Engage in brown-bag lunch talks every 2-3 weeks, collaborate with other organizations, and get involved in special events like our Spring 2013 nutrition week. What We Do • Brown-bag Lunch Talks • Every 2-3 weeks we will have a speaker come talk about current events related to health care and public health • Collaborative Noon Talks • This year we would like to contact other organizations and do collaborative noon talks • Public Health Activities • Spring 2013 we will have a week long event – nutrition and healthy living through the life cycle. • ANYTHING you want!
How to Get Involved • Brown Bag Sessions – Fall 2012 • You can contact and organize a brown bag sessions • Dates for Fall 2012 • 9/17 or 9/24 – Sara Mamman • 10/8 • 10/29 or 11/5 (election week) • 11/20 or 11/26 • 12/3 or 12/10
How to Get Involved • Noon Talks • We do not have plans for any specific noon talks at this time • Student Org Coordinator • Be the contact for other student orgs • You would not be organizing the noon talks (unless you wanted to); you would be responsible for making the connections • Ex. EMIG would contact you about doing a session on preventing unnecessary ED visits. You could then email the PHMIG listserv to help find someone who is also interested in this topic. • Organize a noon talk • Contact a student org of your choice and see if they would like to collaborate on a noon talk
How to Get Involved • Special Events • Nutrition and Healthy Living through the Life Cycle • Anticipated dates: March 11-16, 2013 • Each day will have a different featured noon talk • Mon: prenatal nutrition and breastfeeding • Tues: Farm2School, childhood obesity • Wed: Hunger-obesity paradox • Thurs: Effective prevention messages • Fri: Nutrition in the Elderly • Sat: Healthy Cooking Class and the Fresh Market • Throughout the week: exercise events hosted by fitness organizations
