  1. The Hunger Games By: Suzanne Collins Presentation by Dillon McGuire

  2. Suzanne Collins • Born Nov. 21st, 1947 • Began Career as Children’s TV show writer in 1991 • First Book in 2003, still writing to this day • Books like The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and The books in the Underland Chronicles • Currently lives in Connecticut

  3. Protagonist • Katniss Everdeen • Peeta Mellark

  4. Antagonist • The Capitol • Other Tributes

  5. Favorite Character • Katniss • She is tough, smart, and not afraid to kill, she is constantly outnumbered or outsized but she always pulls through and does some crazy things. Saves Peeta, and wins the Hunger Games.

  6. Least Favorite Character • Peeta • He is just whiney, and half the player that Katniss is, he just kind of wastes oxygen the whole book, He is lucky that Katniss saves him time and time again, and that the Gamemasters favor their “love connection”

  7. Exposition • Character introductions • Setting development • Character relations become apparent

  8. Rising Action • Katniss volunteers for Prim’s place • Says goodbye to loved ones, maybe forever? • Whisked away to the capitol to train • Training • Hunger Games begin

  9. Climax • The forest fire • Caught by other tributes in a tree • Rue Dies • Team announcement • Meet at Cornicopia • Katniss and Peeta don’t play by Gamemakers Rules, want no winner • Katniss and Peeta win the Hunger Games

  10. Falling Action • Capitol is upset how the kids pulled a quick one on them. • Hunger Games “Closing Cermony”

  11. Resolution • Katniss and Peeta are able to finally return home to District 12 • Peeta loves Katniss, but Katniss doesn’t feel the same • Peeta is sad, but they must play that they are in love or the Capitol will get suspicious.

  12. Setting • Some Time period after some Civil war where Capitol Takes control of Panem. Takes place in the Future. • Setting is District 12. The Coal mining district. Poor areas. Where modern day Appalachian mountains are. Very Poor.

  13. Themes • Friendship • Love • Government Oppression

  14. Rating • 8.5 out of 10 • Decently creative, very fun to read, and very descriptive and well developed, but it was somewhat predictable, I knew what was going to happen about 17 pages in. It was still creative and had a great hook, it was a hard book to put down.
