Discovering the Five Pillars of Islam: Faith, Prayer, Almsgiving, Fasting, and Pilgrimage

The Five Pillars of Islam are the foundation of a Muslim's faith and practice. They include Shahadah, the creedal statement of belief, which is recited upon waking and before sleeping. Salat, the ritual prayer performed five times a day, reinforces spiritual connection. Zakat mandates annual charity of 2.5% of wealth to assist the needy. During the month of Ramadan, Muslims observe Sawm, fasting from sunrise to sunset. Finally, Hajj is the pilgrimage to Mecca that every Muslim must undertake if financially and physically able, symbolizing unity and devotion.
