  2. TRAILING • Your essays will need to include information on the following: • T – Technology • R - Representation • A - Audience • I - Ideology • L - Language • I - Institution • N - Narrative • G - Genre

  3. Technology Think about how conventional technology has in the past generally created texts that copy the dominant codes and conventions of the genre

  4. Representation Who or what is represented in your text(s)? How has this been conveyed? etc

  5. Audience • Who is the audience for your text(s)?

  6. Ideology What ‘values’ and beliefs seem to the dominant ones in the text(s) you have chosen

  7. Language Quite literally look at which words are used. Look also of the language of camera angles, lighting, cropping – how has the construction of an image made us ‘read’ a particular image – look at the construction of meaning.

  8. Institution Have a look to see who owns the publications/production companies etc. What do you know about them? Google what else they own – how is this relevant?

  9. Narrative What story does your text(s) tell? How is this constructed?

  10. Genre Be able to define the dominant codes and conventions within the media text(s) that you have selected aimed at the target audience.
