  1. 5 Effective Tips to Prevent Gum Disease

  2. Tips to Prevent Gum Disease  • A healthy mouth isn't only composed of a bright set of perfectly aligned teeth. Your gums are also part of the equation. • Gums keep your teeth in place. When they're weak, they become vulnerable to bacteria growth and can eventually cause the teeth to loosen and fall out.

  3. So for Your Oral Hygiene Routine, Don't Forget Your Gums. Here are some Effective Tips to Care for them and Prevent Gum Disease:

  4. Floss Regularly • Brushing will not be enough to remove bacteria and plaque that may have collected on your teeth and along the gumline. • Flossing targets areas that your toothbrush won't reach. The longer plaque and bacteria stay in your mouth, the harder it will be to remove them. • If you're not comfortable with the traditional floss, try using a dental floss holder or pick.

  5. Brush For At Least Two Minutes • Be sure to cover all areas when brushing your teeth. Take your time so you can avoid aggressive brushing. • Brushing too hard can cause the tooth enamel to erode and doesn't guarantee a better clean. As a strategy, play your favorite song while brushing. • A typical song lasts about 3 minutes, which should be enough time to brush your teeth.

  6. Avoid Smoking • Smoking is also detrimental to your oral health. This habit is linked to gum disease. What's more, when you smoke, your immune system weakens. • This makes it harder for your gums to fight infections and recover from damage. Aside from gum disease, smoking is also associated with oral cancer. • If you need help withdrawing from the habit, talk to your dental team.

  7. Rinse With a Therapeutic Mouthwash • Skip the cosmetic mouthwash and go for a therapeutic mouthwash instead. This type of mouthwash can help reduce your risk of developing gingivitis, the early stage of gum disease. • Rinsing your mouth will help flush out debris from your mouth if you're not able to brush your teeth yet. • Note, however, that rinsing your mouth isn't a substitute to brushing or flossing.

  8. Improve Your Diet • Like any part of your body, gums also benefit from the nutrition derived from the food you eat. • Eat a balanced diet and look out for food that's rich in vitamins A and C. • They help strengthen the bones and the body's immunity.
