Unless our righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the Scribes and Pharisees-Matt 5:20 • Unless we keep the commandments- Matt 19:17; 7:21 AIM: • FOR US NOT TO BE DECEIVED AND RELY ON THE SAME MISTAKES THEY HAD. • Rom 15:4 For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.

  3. 1Cr 10:11 Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. • IN THE VERSES WE HAVE READ, WHAT ARE THOSE MISTAKEN QUALIFICATIONS? • I. OUR OUTWARD MANIFESTATIONS -V 19 • By their fruits you will know them not by the tree or their leaves

  4. It’s so easy to impress people of who we are but when they come to know us personally, we start to find out who they really are. • People’s impression of who you are. II. CALLING THE NAME OF THE LORD -V 21 • Rom 10:13 For "whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.“ • Rom 10:14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard?

  5. And how shall they hear without a preacher? • Rom 10:15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things! • Luke 6:46 "But why do you call Me 'Lord, Lord,' and not do the things which I say?

BEING RELIGIOUS-V 21 • Religion-is man’s way of reaching God • We cannot reach God so He reaches us through Christ. • In our emptiness in life without the kingdom of God and hunger for power or authority as we are designed to rule, man created so many ways of satisfying ourselves through religion. • It’s not because we are busy for God, we are righteous.

  7. 2Ti 3:5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! • Jam 1:27 Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, [and] to keep oneself unspotted from the world. IV. PREACHING GOD’S WORD OR OTHER FORM OF SERVICE-V 22 • Have we not prophesied in your name? • Despite the fact that they preached God’s word they were disqualified.

  8. Never mentioned in the Bible that if you serve Him, you will get saved. • Serving Him makes us receive rewards, things that accompany salvation-Hebrews 6:9 V. YOUR AUTHORITY IN JESUS NAME-V 22 • Have we not cast out demons in your name? • Mat 28:18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.

Mat 16:18 "And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. • Mat 16:19 "And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. • Can you cast out a demon without having a right relationship with the Lord?

Act 19:13 Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists took it upon themselves to call the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, "We exorcise you by the Jesus whom Paul preaches." • Act 19:14 Also there were seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, who did so. • Act 19:15 And the evil spirit answered and said, "Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?"

Act 19:16 Then the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, overpowered them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. • If they had cast out demons, how come they were disqualified? • It means they had a good start but failed in the end. • Mat 10:22 "And you will be hated by all for My name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved. • Compared to an athlete, they were sprinters not milers.

So it’s not because you were okay yesterday, you are okay today, that you will be okay tomorrow. • Ezekiel 18:24 "But when a righteous man turns away from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and does according to all the abominations that the wicked [man] does, shall he live? All the righteousness which he has done shall not be remembered; because of the unfaithfulness of which he is guilty and the sin which he has committed, because of them he shall die.

  13. VI. GIFTS FROM THE LORD-V 22 • Have we not done many wonders in your name? • the word of wisdom • the word of knowledge • faith • gifts of healing • the working of miracles • prophecy • discerning of Spirits • divers kinds of tongues • the interpretation of tongues

Mat 24:24 "For false christsand false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. • Mat 24:25 "See, I have told you beforehand. • Rom 11:29 For the gifts and the calling of God [are] irrevocable. VII. POPULARITY TO PEOPLE BUT NOT KNOWN BY GOD-V 23 • I never knew you, depart from Me. • 1Cr 8:3 But if anyone loves God, this one is known by Him.

  15. John 14:21 "He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him. • No intimate relationship. VIII. PRACTICES ON SUNDAY-V 23 • You who practice lawlessness • Preaching, casting out demons, and doing wonders are their practice on Sundays • Their daily practice was-LAWLESSNESS

  16. Public and private are contrary to each other. IX. HEARING GOD’S WORD-V 24 • Rom 2:13 (for not the hearers of the law [are] just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified; • Hearing is just the key to doing. X. KNOWLEDGE ON GOD’S WORD -V 24 • 1Cr 8:1 Now concerning things offered to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies. • 1Cr 8:2 And if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know.

"

YOUR STABILITY BEFORE THE STORM-V 27-27 • Your strength or stability will be measured only after the storm. • Storm were design for us to know how strong we are. • Shaking were designed to retain the unshakeable-Hebrews 12:27 • Mat 24:9 "Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name's sake. • Mat 24:10 "And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. • Mat 24:11 "Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. • Mat 24:12 "And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. • Mat 24:13 "But he who endures to the end shall be saved.

  20. CHALLENGE: • Don’t you have any mistaken qualifications of entering the kingdom of Heaven/God? CONCLUSION: • Mat 7:21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.
