  1. 4ThingstoTryWhenCopingwithTraumaAnxietyandPTSD Traumaisoftentheresultofexperiencingadeeplydistressingeventinvolvingdangerousorlife-threateningcircumstances,suchasbeinginaworkplaceaccident,experiencinganaturaldisaster,thesuddendeathofalovedone,experiencingassault,beingincombat,orbeingthevictimofpoliticalviolence.Themajorityofadultswillexperienceatleastonetraumaticeventintheirlifetime,howevernotallthosewhoexperienceadistressingeventwillgoontodeveloptraumaanxiety-relateddisorders,suchasPTSD.Manywillhaveanadjustmentperiodfollowingthetraumaticeventwheretheymayexperiencefeelingsofdepression,anxiety,despair,orreplayfearfulmemories.However,roughly8-9%willdevelopatraumadisorder,thatgreatlyimpactstheirmentalhealth,qualityoflife,andwellbeing.PTSD,traumaanxiety,adjustmentdisorder,depression,andsubstanceabusearecommonconditionsthatfollowexposuretoatraumaticevent.Experiencingtraumaortheaftermaththatfollowstheeventisnotthevictim’sfaultandtherearemanyresourcesavailabletohelpyou,orsomeoneyouknowwhoisstrugglingtocopewiththeirtrauma-related mental illness,anxiety,orPTSD.
