  1. John F. Nash, Jr By: Greg

  2. Early Life • Born on June 13, 1928 in Bluefield, West Virginia. • His sister was born about a year after him on November 16, 1930. • He originally was going to follow in his fathers footsteps and become a electrical engineer. So he went to college at Carnegie Tech. in Pittsburgh.

  3. College • He was on a full scholarship called the the George Westinghouse Scholarship. • Midway through his major in chemical engineering he started to think about other majors. • So he changed to chemistry, but then changed again to mathematics. • By the end of college he ended up getting master in addition to his bachelor.

  4. Princeton • After graduating from Carnegie Tech he then had a choice to go to either Havard or Princeton. • This were he came up with the non cooperative games idea. • He also came up with a discovery relating to manifolds and real algebraic varieties. • After getting his Ph.D he went to M.I.T. in 1951.

  5. M.I.T • He became a high paid instructor. • While at M.I.T. he published a book Real Algebraic Manifolds. • He remained at instructor until the spring of 1959.

  6. Family Life • He got Married during 1957 to Alicia who had graduated as a Physics Major at M.I.T.

  7. Schizophrenic Problems • He started to become schizophrenic during early 1959. • He spent 50 days under observation at McLean Hospital. • He then traveled to Europe and attempted to gain status there as a refugee. • When he came back he was ordered to by court to spent 5-8 months in a hopital.

  8. Recovery • During that time at the hospital he finally renounced his delusions. • He was able to get some more math theories which were the Arc Structure of Singularities and Analyticity of Solutions of Implicit Function Problems with Analytic Data.

  9. More Schizophrenic Problems • During the 60’s his dream like delusions started to come back. • Trying to avoid going back to the hospital and seeing more psychiatrists, he tried ignoring the delusions. • He tried then nearly fully recovered from his Schizophrenia.

  10. Later there was a book published about John Nash called “A Beautiful Mind” • Then there was a movie made based off the book “A beautiful Mind” • He then won a Noble Prize in Mathematics.
