  4. Journalist • 1964-1974 in Chile • Wrote for a woman’s magazine, children’s magazine, TV shows and Movie Documentaries • 1975-1984 in Venezuela • Wrote for a news paper

  5. Early Life • Dad was first cousin to Salvador Allende (former president of Chile) • After her dad disappeared mom took her family to Santiago, Chile in ’53 • Went to a North American private school and an English private school • Came back to Chile in ’58

  6. Now • Married to Miguel Fríasin 1968 • Got remarried to Willie Gordon • lives in San Rafael, California • In 2006 was one of the 8 flag people in the Olympics in Italy

  7. Isabel Allende Foundation • Started December 9, 1996 • Daughter Paula Frias was ill and died in 1992 • Paula died when she was 28 • Mission of the foundation is to help women and girls with education, health care, reproductive self-determination and protection from violence, exploitation and/or discrimination
