Biographical Sketch • Isabel Allende was born on August 2,1942. • Isabel Allende es de Peru. • She was the niece of Chile’s president at that time, Salvador Allende. • Isabel moved to Venezuela a few moths after her uncle’s assassination in 1973. • When Isabel was four she, her mother, and her siblings had to move from Peru to Chile because her father had left them. • She created her first novel, The House of The Spirits, which got inspired by Isabel’s exile. • The genre of her books are based on magic and realism. Also called magical realism. • In 1962 Isabel married Miguel Frias and got divorced in 1987and then she married Willi Gordon in 1988 • Isabel’s daughter, Paula, died after she got porphyria • Isabel fell into depression and was not able to write until 2001 when she published Portrait of Sepia. • Isabel es muy inteligente.

Achievements (continued...) In 2010 Isabel received Chile’s National Literature Prize. The news was first told to her when she was still in the United States and then she flew to her homeland, Chile to collect her prize. Isabel was also the fourth women to receive this award. Personal Thoughts about Isabel Allende I chose Isabel Allende because she is a great person to look up to. For example, Isabel Allende teaches people that if you keep the past behind and forget the bad then you will be able to achieve great things. I say this because she her self has gone through a lot, but ended up an author known world wide! I also chose Isabel Allende because of her literary work. I found out that her books are translated and sold to many countries and are wonderful! Me gusta leer libros las libros de Isabel Allende. Isabel es muy excelente. In conclusion, because Isabel is a great role model and has great literary work, I knew it will be awesome to find out more about her!
