Exploring Graphic Novels in the Classroom: Instructional Strategies and Book Talks

This session focuses on integrating graphic novels into the classroom, particularly within the Romance genre. Participants will discuss final book talks due on November 30 and collaborate on designing instructional units that comply with SC ELA standards. Emphasis will be on recommending a diverse range of YA novels and authors for students' independent reading. Additionally, we'll reflect on assessments, participant feedback, and strategies for enhancing student engagement through book discussions, reviews, and creative instructional activities.

  4. TSWBAT: design instructional units using YA novels alone or in conjunction with canonical works in ways appropriate to the SC ELA standards. You should also be familiar with a wide range of YA novels and authors, so you can recommend appropriate books to students for independent reading. Read 2 class books,3 small group books, 8 individual books. Discuss books & teaching methods. Write reviews. Give book talks. Write a paper. Create a unit.
