District Policies? • All schools share the titles • Do not edit titles if other schools have copies attached unless the edit benefits everyone • Only use Textbook Manager for FSBD purchased materials. Use Library Manager for: • Equipment and technology • Novel sets not purchased through FSBD • Classroom dictionary sets, reference sets, etc. • Guided reading collections • Use district standard call numbers and barcode numbers

Barcode symbology is Code 3 of 9/ Code 39    3. Your number range is determined by the last 9 digits of the barcode.        Example: beginning: 000000001 ending: 000001000, total quantity:         1000    4. Type indicators: 3 for library materials, 4 for school-owned textbooks,        and 5 for district-owned textbooks    5. For your 4 digit school location code, click here    6. Total length of barcode is 14 digits    7. Check digit calculation = None    8. Your data disk will be MARC 21/852 holdings format    9. Our current version of Destiny is 9.0

  20. Importing titles and copies • When in doubt, stick with the defaults if you are importing a microlif from a vendor. Always Preview first!!!!

Adding Titles Manually • Adding titles • To best limit your results, search first by ISBN • Sort through the results and identify the title that best matches your needs • Always attach your copies to the District Catalogued titles when at all possible. We want to minimize the number of unnecessary titles in the District Catalog. • Alliance Plus titles should only be used when a DC title is not available, or when the DC titles are inadequate to attach your copies to. • Z-Sources can be used when neither of the previous two options are available.

Editing Titles • Always check to see which other Media Centers are using a title before editing the title. • Only edit a title if the change is helpful to the other schools who have their copies attached to it. • Titles should be standardized, not idiosyncratic. Don’t make up the rules to cataloging.

Merging titles and copies • What is the best way to merge titles? • Print out or write down the barcode numbers and copy info of the copies that you want to move • Delete the copies under Catalog tab / Update Copies • Locate the best title match and re-add the copies to that title • If you notice a title that should be merged for multiple sites, let me know the isbn, and I can merge them for everyone

Tips • Always look at the screen after you scan something to verify if it processed correctly • Listen for the sounds • Remember the tabs • Remember the features at bottom of the page • Remember the features on the upper right side of the page • Remember the Details button • Using Prnt Scrn key (or Alt + Prnt Scrn)
