Definition • Active Directory is a system which supports: • A single sign-on environment via the UmassD Logon • Improved desktop security • Improved management and administration of workstations • Consolidation of servers • Improved timeframe for updates, patches and installation of new versions of software • Quicker support call resolution via Remote Desktop Management

  4. Benefits • Access to shared central network disk storage • Ability to share data within departments via departmental shares • Access to personal storage on a centralized secure server • Regular backup of data placed on centralized network disk storage • Easier, searchable access to network services (printers, file servers, etc.) • Centralized support for servers • Remote software installation allowing for more timely software upgrades, patches, and updates

User Authentication & Security • Your UMassD Logon (Email username and password) will now provide access to even more resources including your computer so the level of security required for this account has increased. • Password Requirements for Security purposes • Minimum of 10 characters • At least one Upper Case Letter • At least one Lower Case Letter • At least one Number • Password will expire every 180 days • UMASSD Logon account passwords can be reset at • https://email.umassd.edu/password/ • Challenge questions which will allow you to reset your own password should you forget it can be set at • https://email.umassd.edu/activate
