SFCC Sustainable Technologies Center • Vision: • The Sustainable Technology Center at Santa Fe Community College is a local, regional and national learning center that focuses on preparing students and the workforce for careers in renewable energies, green building and other emerging fields that result in economic and community sustainability. The STC is recognized as a leader in new education for a new economy, advancing a learning environment that fosters partnerships, broad participation and innovation . • Mission: • Develop flexible and innovative on-ground and online learning opportunities in renewable energies, green building, environmental technologies and other emerging sustainable technologies • Ensure that the STC meets the learning needs of a diverse population of new and re-careering students • Model fiscally sound educational practices that ensure the STC will have appropriate state-of-the-art technology, equipment, infrastructure, and faculty and staff • Meet ongoing needs of all stakeholders in business and industry, education, and government

Preparing for 2010 -- Grants • National Science Foundation (NSF) Advanced Technology Education (ATE), pre-proposal submitted April 08 • Student recruitment in STEM, focused at rural, northern NM high schools (Pojoaque) ($750,000) with re-tooled CT curriculum • Department of Labor, submitted April 08 • Curriculum development and delivery in Smart Grid Technologies ($950,000) • Department of Education--Tech Prep, submitted April 08 • Proposal for SFCC to be state-wide STEM and Project Lead The Way coordinating institution ($600,000) STC Grants

Preparing for 2010 -- Pipeline • Project Lead the Way dual credit curriculum at SF high schools • STEM 111 sections for new SFCC and ABE students • Recruitment and outreach from CECT Workforce Development • WIRED grant scholarships • Articulations with CNM, NMSU, NMHU, NNMC STC Pipeline Grants

Sustainability Technologies “Inside/Out” Program Design Method Examine Community and Regional Workforce Needs Determine skill sets for employment/ articulation Inventory SFCC programs/courses to match skill sets Examine POS for overlap/compliment of others SFCC Package courses into program of study (POS) Identify curriculum gaps and develop program objectives Seek external validation of POS (Advisory/Certification) Present to VPASA and Curriculum Committee Modify if necessary and seek team input

  9. STC Curriculum and Program Timelines STC curriculum development must take place prior to November 2008 to meet 2009/10 catalogue and scheduling/planning timelines.
