Minimum Requirements vs. Competitive Admission Minimum Requirements: • 3.5 overall GPA (GT recalculated scale) • 3.5 math GPA (GT recalculated scale) • 600+ on the SAT math section • 4+ on AP Calculus AB exam or3+ on AP Calculus BC exam Admitted Averages for Fall 2012 Class: • GPA: 4.1 (Overall and Math-only) • SAT: 2192 • 92% took AP Calculus BC exam. • Average Score: 4.9 • AB Average Score: 5

  3. Timeline for Admission Process

Admission Process Notes on Testing In order to ensure that scores arrive at Georgia Tech before the July 15 deadline… SAT: The latest test date that can be accepted for admission to the Distance Calculus Program is June 1. If a student takes the June 1 SAT, he/she must list Georgia Tech as a recipient school when registering for the test. ACT: The latest test date that can be accepted for admission to the Distance Calculus Program is April 13. If a student takes the June 8 ACT, it is very unlikely that scores will be available by July 15. Also, please note that Georgia Tech requires a writing section score. This can come from either the SAT or ACT. If a student chooses to take the ACT without the writing section, they will still need to submit a writing score from either the SAT or a previous ACT test. AP: Students must list Georgia Tech as a test score recipient on the day of the exam.

Accel Funding Starting Fall 2012, Accel only covers tuition (not fees or books) 2012-13 Costs: • $107 + books for Accel recipients • $1,135 + books for non-Accel recipients 2013-14 Costs: • Tuition and fees will be set over the summer (typically June) • Accel can still be adjusted- have to wait to see the amount it will cover

Accel Funding Process • Student submits online application • HS counselor approves • GT Admission approves • Financial Aid approves and awards funding to student account • Student can see total remaining cost for semester on account Deadlines Fall • Students: submit by August 2 • Counselors: submit by August 9 • Payment for semester due August 19 at 4pm Spring • Students: submit by November 22 • Counselors: submit by December 6 • Payment for semester due January 6 at 4pm (tentative)

  7. Whose job is it?

GT Responsibilities • Answer questions about the program • Admit students to the program and provide list of admits to counties and schools • Submit GT approval for Accel • Register students for program • Provide orientation session and materials • Assist schools with technology • Provide instruction for course • Issue GT transcripts and grades • Maintain GT website (admission.gatech.edu, then “Programs for High Schoolers”)

School Responsibilities • Answer questions about the program • Market program to students and families • Assist students with application process (transcript) • Maintain technology at site • Notify GT of any staff changes (counselor, facilitator, etc.) • Monitor student attendance • Proctor exams and submit assignments to GT • Approve Accel applications • Issue GT grades on high school transcript

Student Responsibilities • Complete application process properly (online application with uploaded transcript, SAT/ACT score, and AP score) • Complete Intent to Enroll Form • Complete Accel application • Attend summer orientation session • Check and respond to e-mails • Notify GT of schedule changes • Purchase textbook for course • Pay remaining balance each term • Provide GT transcript to high school • Meet deadlines

Prospective Student Meeting • Tuesday, April 30, at 7pm • Advertise to eligible students • 9th, 10th, and 11th graders in AP Calculus this year • Requirements for serving as a host school: • Building Access • Linking to presentation (via distance learning equipment) • Provide contacts for the night of the program • Presentation will be captured and made available online

DCP 2013-14 Academic Year August 2 – Intent to Enroll Form Due; Accel Application Due from Students 6 – On-Campus Orientation 7 – Students Registered for Fall Course (MATH 1502) 9 – Wait List Closes; AccelApplications due from HS 16 – Test Class 19 – Fall Classes begin; Payment Due November 22 – AccelApplications Due (Students) December 1 – Students Who Will NOT Participate in the Spring Must Notify Ashley Brooks 6 – Accel Applications due (from HS) 9 – Students Registered for Spring Course (MATH 2401) January 6 – 1st Day of Spring Classes (Tentative); Payment Due

  13. Alternative Options to DCP DCP is a competitive program – Not all applicants are accepted. Counselors should help interested students to identify an alternative course in case of denial/wait listing. A few likely alternatives include: • Dual Enrollment Programs • MOWR , Joint Enrollment, Dual Enrollment • Alternative Curriculum Options • AP Statistics, Multivariable Calculus • Online Programs
