  5. Four-fold general agenda • Starting an hour ago... The Cycle of Poverty! Starring Bruce Duong • 6PM – 7 PM: So you signed your life away to EWB eh? Do you even know what that means and how much we’re planning to wring you dry? Well, you are about to find out! • 7PM – 8PM: Getting to know each other, energy building, and reaching out far and wide! • 8PM – 9PM: Bringing down the Diablos in Soccer.

  6. Why did we selected you a commissioner? Because we feel that you can (you better!!) : • Keep up in school • Have fun!!! • Keep good communications with your team • Fill your role as a commissioner • Increase your knowledge about development, EWB and leadership • Become a regular member of EWB

  8. What is an EWB Commisisoner? In a nutshell? YOU

  9. Impact Oriented We want to tie our actions to impact. Ok, so you want to write an article in the Newspaper about EWB, or you want to hold a car smash… GREAT! Now what does that accomplish for international development?

Critical Thinking YOU will be making decisions on how EWB runs YOU are Potential Energy (ok, no more Engineering jokes) YOU can create change YOU represent Impact YOU are EWB EWB is not a perfect organization. Your experiences and ideas can bring change to the organization and the developing world. Speak openly about EWB, criticize it, improve it! "We must remember that one determined person can make a significant difference, and that a small group of determined people can change the course of history."

  11. Why are you here? Last week, we checked out your qualifications, but very little people mentioned WHY they want to be part of the big EWB family. Who’s your Dorothy? What is the reason that drives you to be here? What do you want to accomplish? What impact do you want to create? Break up into your respective teams and discuss these questions, get to know your team a bit!

  18. National Conference • Sign up on October 17, at 1 PM. • Log-onto MyEWB, and browse around until you find National Conference Registration. • There’s only 45 subsidized spots across the country!

(Upcoming events and deadlines) • Tuesday October 16: Movie, Uganda Rising • Movie about Child Soldiering in Northern Uganda • Wednesday October 17: Shanti Day • All day, in the Mac Hall Courtyard • Talking about Millenium Development Goals • Wednesday October 17 (1 PM): National Conference Registration • Registration opens up, and the first 45 people who sign up across Canada would be getting approximately 200$ cheaper (cost is 225$ for registration) • Don’t have access to credit card? Talk to Marc • Friday October 19: JF Application Deadline • This is going to be your opportunity to go overseas. • Saturday October 20: GULUWALK • Walk to fundraise/support the fight against child soldiering in Northern Uganda • Sunday October 21, Plaza Theatre, 5 PM: • A dollar a day, the price of cotton (UofC in collaboration with Calgary Professional • Monday October 22, 5 PM: Education Module (ICT 116) • A special by Bruce Duong

  23. Ice Breaker!!! • Secretly pick the person you know the least, and pick the person you know the most.

  24. Get to know each other • Ok, the Exec have done this activity before! But not with this twist! • The winners of this game will have 8 people on one chair • Each person will have a turn to say “shift right if you…”, according to the list of names on the board.

  25. Team Builder • Break up into teams, discuss your prominent issues with your respective executives. • If you can’t find your VP, join any random team you want

  26. Energizers • This activity has been done by the SWAT Team.

  27. Outreach • Together, we’ll try to reach out to a few important people, and try to change their behaviour. • Who do we want to affect? • Prime Minister • Mr. Schulich • Member of the Parliament • CEO of a big company • Support letters for groups that need it?
