  3. What is a grant? • A grant is… • A sum of money given by an organization, esp. a government, for a particular purpose.

  4. Youth Opportunities Fund • What is it? • A fund that uses earned interest to provide grants for Key Clubs and Key Clubbers to help finance their community service projects.

  5. Where is it?

  6. 50 cents, so what?! • 50 cents from the $11 membership fee is given to the YOF. • But it is not all used for the fund. • Your 50 cents goes into a parent account. The interest from that account goes into a service account. 4% of the Service account is used for YOF

  7. Application Process • Scenario: • An awesome Key Club in the CNH District has a yearly service project where they make hundreds of blankets to donate to a local organization every winter season. The project costs $1000 annually, they want to apply for a grant to continue to do the project every year.

  8. Questions: When and where will your project take place? What have you done to get your project started? How will your project improve the community? The country? Or the World? How will you measure the success of your project? Give a timeline of your project Many more…

  10. Submitting the Application • The deadline this year is • October 15, 2013 • There are three ways to submit your application: • Online: email to clehman@kiwanis.org • Fax: (+1-317-879-0204) • Snail mail: directions are on the application

  11. Directions • -Fill out the application online • -Print it to get all the required signatures • -Scan it to the computer then email it • OR • -Fax it • OR • -Mail it • * You can also start out with a blank application and fill it out by hand.

  12. Application No No’s - typos - Incomplete sentences - One word answers - Vague plans - No pre plans have been started • -Incompleteapplications • - No signatures • - Additionalpages • - Late applications • - Division Wide Projects

  13. Approved?... Receiving your Grant $$$ • In January you will find out if you were approved or not, and for how much. • Funds are given on a REIMBURSEMENT basis • - you need to complete the project by January • -save ALL receipts and invoices • -send in another budget form • *All this will be covered in the mailed acceptance letter

  14. Other Available Grants: The Cal-Nev-Ha Foundation PTP Grant It is a type of start-up grant. They will Grant you up to $250 to fund a NEW Service event that relates to Pediatric Trauma Prevention. This is not used to start fundraisers

  15. The gist of it: This application can be submitted any time of the year. (Allow four weeks to hear an answer) You may apply for one grant per project Similar to the YOF application process
