  2. Where is Foggia? Foggia is located in the “Tavoliere delle Puglie”and it is the biggest city in this area Our city

  3. Foggia’s origins Foggia’s origins go back to the year one thousand. According to tradition three shepherds, attracted by three little flames on a pond ( today ‘Lake square’ rises here), found the Holy Image of Seven Veils Madonna. It was brought to the “Taverna del gufo”, around which the first built-up area of the town began to develop. The holy table of Seven Veils Madonna

  4. The oldest area In the oldest area in Foggia there are some old beautiful churches - the Cathedral, St. Agostino , St. Chiara, Addolorata church and St.Giovanni - and some small squares. The main street in this area is “Arpi street” where there are a lot of pubs, shops, clubs, and old beautiful buildings. At the beginning of Arpi street there is the Museum. It contains archeological finds, belonged to the old Dauni population, and paintings by our local artists.

  5. The Cathedral The Cathedral, in baroque style and with a very high bell tower, is the most important monument in Foggia and is located in “Duomo square”. Its last reconstruction was in 1722. Inside the Cathedral there is the true table of Seven Veils Madonna, that is carried in procession twice a year, on 22nd March –local festival - and on 15th August – national festival -.

  6. The Calvary Mountain church (called the Crosses church) TheCrosses church, in baroque style, was built in 1615. It is a small church, preceded by 5 chapels with cupolas and crosses. Under the church there is a crypt, called Holy Land, where there were secret meetings during the Italian Risorgimento.

  7. “Cavour square” In the middle of Cavour square there is an Art Nouveau fountain, built in 1924. The “Villa comunale” is one of the greenest and biggest park in Italy where you can walk, relax and children can play. The villa has got a beautiful little wood. Around it there is the “Villa comunale”, the “Palazzo dell’ acquedotto” and the University, with a lot of faculties.

  8. “Umberto Giordano” Umberto Giordano, born in Foggia in 1867, was an international famous musician. . U. Giordano Conservatory, built in 1938, is located in Arpi street Giordano square is located at the beginning of the main street in Foggia. The theatre, dedicated to Umberto Giordano, was built in 1828.

  9. Gargano If you come to Foggia, go and visit Gargano, a promontory not far from our city and called the”Heel of Italy”. It’s famous all over our country and abroad for its wonderful coast, picturesque towns and pine forests

  10. Gargano towns Rodi Vieste, Peschici and Rodi are on Gargano coast. They are little towns with narrow and old streets, stairs and low and white buildings. Vieste Peschici
