  1. NASA QuarterlyUVIS Q4 - 2009 (August - October 2009)

  2. UVIS: Science Highlights • Analyze and prioritize icy satellite occultations of stars in the Solstice Mission (Hansen) • Develop observation design for UVIS observation of Enceladus’ plume occulting the sun (Hansen) • Obtained results for Shkuratov multiple scattering model fit to the albedo of ring particles. Determined power law phase function for ring particles through analysis of multiple observations over a range of phase angles. (Bradley) • Developed and tested data processing pipeline for delivery of high-level calibrated ring stellar occultation data products to the Planetary Data System. (Colwell) • Several new waves discovered in Saturn’s C ring. Possible identification of some waves with known resonances leading to determination of C ring surface mass density. (Colwell)

  3. 4. UVIS: Plans • Science Plans (Nov 2009 - Jan 2010) • Final plans for Titan flyby in January 2010 (T66) (Hedelt) • Enceladus close flybys on November 2 and November 21 will return data on Enceladus’ plume with Saturn in the background. (Hansen) • C Ring waves paper (led by Baillie) is in draft form and should be submitted before the end of 2009. (Colwell) • Paper documenting standard HSP occultation calibration and PDS delivery is in draft form and should be submitted before the end of 2009. (Colwell) • Delivery of high-level ring occultation data products to the PDS. (Colwell) • Use radiative transfer results from a monte-carlo model to compare with retrieved power law phase function index of the rings Using this, I will then investigate the fractional abundance of water ice in the rings.
