  1. ENRICHMENT WEEK 2011

  2. Students who have not opted for activities You should meet in Bradshaw Hall at 8.35am. You will complete different activities each day. 8.35am - Registration in Bradshaw Hall. Activity 1 = Periods 1 & 2 (8.50-10.50) Activity 2 = Periods 3 & 4 (11.10-1.10) LUNCH Registration at 1.50pm in Bradshaw Hall. You will then leave the building and go home early. You will receive your timetable of activities on Monday morning.

Art Enrichment (JRa) Important things to remember; Arrive each day promptly at 8.15 am in Art room 009 Coaches will depart approximately 8.30 am each day Bring walking boots, most days, waterproof clothing, a hat ,sunscreen if needed. Bring a packed lunch, rucksack , sketchbook and drawing materials. Bring a camera. Bring a little money with you to buy, drinks and snacks and postcards and gifts. Bring your mobile phone with you

  4. Monday: Yorkshire Sculpture Park Arrive 8.15 art room 009 Coach leaves 8.30am At THE PARK YOU WILL BE LOOKING AT THE SCULPTURES THAT ARE PLACED WITHIN THE GROUNDS. YOU WILL DRAW FROM AND APPRECIATE THE SCULPTURES. YOU WILL NEED YOUR SKETCHBOOK AND DRAWING EQUIPMENT, SEE LIST BEFORE. MOST OF THE DAY IS OUTDOORS SO BRING SENSIBLE CLOTHING AND BOOTS. ARRIVE BACK AT SCHOOL APPROX 3.30PM, MAKE OWN ARRANGEMENTS. TUESDAY: MANCHESTER GALLERY ARRIVE AT SCHOOL 8.15 AM ROOM 009 COACH LEAVES 8.30 AM AT THE GALLERY YOU WILL BE LOOKING AT NATURE IN ART. BRING WITH YOU YOUR SKETCHBOOK AS YOU WILL DRAW FROM THE ART WORK. YOU DO NOT NEED WALKING BOOTS FOR THIS DAY ,AS YOU WILL BE INSIDE. Bring a packed lunch and some money for postcards etc Arrive back at school, 3pm -3.30pm make own arrangements Wednesday: Rivington A walk in the Country side. On this day you Will be walking, Drawing and creating Sculptures from the Things you find Within the Environment. Please Remember your Walking boots, Waterproofs as you Are outside all day. Bring drawing materials A rucksack, money, Packed lunch. Arrive back at school 3.30pm approx, make own arrangements. Wednesday FRIDAY ; ART WORKSHOPS; MEET IN 009 8.30AM, DEVELOPING IDEAS FROM THE WEEK

Film Making Where to meet - Room 101 Time - beginning of school day Finish – end of school day What to bring – pens/pencil/rubber/pencil crayons/felt tips What to wear – normal clothes / flat shoes / possibly a coat or jumper if it is cold No money needed Staff involved – Miss Field and Mr Spellman

DofE Award Expedition Taster (SHa / JPa) It’s great that you’re interested in participating in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award next year and we hope that you’ll find the experience as enjoyable and rewarding as thousands of other young people have over the previous sixty years that the Award has been operating.

  9. DofE Award Expedition Taster Date Tuesday 5 July 2011 Time and Place Start Staff will be present outside Marple Train Station from 8.30am.The train to Hope (Derbyshire) leaves at 9.00am. Finish The return train leaves Hope at 14.39 and arrives back at Marple at 15.07.

  10. DofE Award Expedition Taster Activity An outdoor activity … First Aid course provided by High Peak First Aid – trainers of the professionals!

  12. DofE Award Expedition Taster Marple Walk – an easy walk testing navigation/map reading skills along the Macclesfield canal and the Middlewood Way.  

  13. DofE Award Expedition Taster Date Friday 8 July 2011 Activities Edale walk – tougher walk taking in some proper hills and valleys and trickier paths to navigate. Not for the “are we nearly there yet brigade?” … but not the real deal either … by a long way!

DofE Award Expedition Taster What is suitable Outdoor Activity Clothing? • NOT JEANS… a waterproof coat … NOT JEANS… walking boots/shoes (at a push trainers … NOT wellies) … NOT JEANS… something warm if its cold … something cool if its warm (no bare bits to get sunburned!) … NOT JEANS… basically, BE SENSIBLE – it’s not a fashion shoot! • Oh, and did I mention? NOT JEANS…

  15. DofE Award Expedition Taster Anything else? • When walking, a proper waterproof rucksack would obviously be better than any fashion accessory or plastic bag. • Plenty of water. • Sun cream (hopefully!). • MEDICATION (if you have any requirements, eg asthma).

  17. Make a CD We will be completing a wide variety of task and learning new skills all week. Please report to Rooms 001 / 002 on Monday at 8.35am.

  18. Learn to knit (DHi / BRh) This activity will be taking place in Room 501. Please arrive promptly and be ready to work hard to produce your own WORK OF ART!!!!

  19. Bike It! (JWr) Come to school with your bike, a safety helmet, drinks and lots of energy. We will meet each day at Isherwood Gym. Be on time!!!

  20. TENNIS (JHz) 30 STUDENTS TAKING PART IN TENNIS FOR THE WEEK OF 4TH JULY:

  21. TENNIS: Mornings will be spent practising our tennis skills. Afternoons will be spent in a variety of competitions. Come along in sportswear and be prepared in case of wet weather and / or hot, sunny weather!! Meeting in room 003 and then moving onto the tennis courts each morning – bags can be left in 003 if required. In case of wet weather a variety of indoor activities have been organised – quizzes and crosswords/ Wii tennis and table tennis.

Love Marple (KPi) Enrichment Week Activity MEET IN ROOM 207 EACH DAY Our aim for the week is to come up with ideas and designs for improvements that can be made within our locality, particularly in the Memorial Park with teenagers and young people in mind. We are following guidelines offered by the Local Authority and aiming to come up with a good case for upgrading the skatepark in particular. On Monday 4th July we are going to do a walking tour of Marple to look at the positives and negatives of our local area, so pupils will need to be prepared for wet weather with good shoes and a waterproof as well as bringing a packed lunch with them. The rest of the week we will be in school and we will split into groups. We will be putting together different designs and creating surveys, so that we can get feedback from other young people in the school.

  31. What you will need Clothing that will keep you dry in the rain and cool in the heat. Sun cream. A packed lunch or money for lunch in the school canteen or at the shop at Roman lakes. For those people who have opted to bring their own fishing gear, you will need a valid fishing licence.

  38. STOP FRAME ANIMATION : Room 706 (CWi / SPe) Day 1: The basics of Stop Frame Animation, how to set up the studio ready to animate. Storyline and storyboarding Day 2: Writing the script and the dialogue, voice over and sound. Begin filming Day 3: Stage set up, characters and camera ready, filming continues Day 4: Filming and editing the final movie, everything in sync – Finish off with the Oscars What to bring: pens, pencils, colours What to wear: normal clothes Lunch: Packed lunch / school lunch in the canteen Staff involved in delivery: C.   39. MASTER CHEF (KMi) Due to the high demand for places we have re-organised our schedule to accommodate 105 students. Our activities involve a trip out fruit-picking on either Monday or Tuesday. For fruit-picking you need to wear sensible shoes and have a water-proof (just in case!). Group A will go out fruit-picking on Monday. Group B will go out on Tuesday. Check which group you are in! (next slide) Monday Group B meet in 904/905. Group A meet in 203/209.

FASHION DESIGN WORKSHOP Meet in Room 903 in the Design and Technology block at 8.35am Day 1 Morning – Fashion drawing lesson and practice Day 1 Afternoon – Creating a finished design Day 2 Morning – Pattern cutting lesson and practice Day 2 afternoon – Sewing machine lesson and practice Day 3 – Alternating groups –morning – bag design and make Day 3 - Afternoon – Clothing design and make Day 4 – morning - Clothing design and make Day 4 - Afternoon – Fashion show What you need to bring: Pencil case (pen, pencil and ruler) Old clothes/fabric All taking part in the Fashion Design Workshop need to attend a meeting in 903 on Tuesday 28th June at 1.20.   42. Watersports 4 day programme of activities Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 4th, 5th, 6th and 8th July 2011

  43. Watersports trips-Key Information. Staff: Mrs Pickering (group leader) Mrs Tucker, Miss McGee and Mr Lyndon We will be meeting in room 104 at 8.35am PROMPT every morning We need to leave school to travel to the Watersports centre by coach at 8.50 am All trips will return to school by 2.50pm

  44. What will I be doing? Groups will visit different centres over the 4 days and some students will visit Salford Watersports Centre, Debdale, Sale Water Park and Rope Race. You will be taking part in a variety of different Water-based outdoor activities e.g. Canoeing, Kayaking, Windsurfing.

  45. What items do I need to bring? 2 TOWELS “wet” shoes, these can be a pair of old trainers (Crocs, sandals, flip flops are NOT acceptable) Swimming costume to go under the wetsuits (provided by centre) Shorts and T-Shirts A warm jumper/fleece/layers (unless it is a boil;ing hot day, you will need warm clothes!) Shower accessories/gel/soap/shampoo etc. A plastic bag for wet kit

  46. What else do I need to do/bring? Wear casual, comfortable, warm clothes Bring a packed lunch/snacks Plenty of water, especially if warm weather Suncream and a hat Waterproof coat (we will be outdoors!) Small amount of pocket money (if you wish) £1 coin is needed for the use of lockers at some centres

  49. ROPE RACE You will be involved in a variety of activities at Rope Race. Make sure that you wear sensible clothing and shoes. Make your own way to Rope Race – we will meet you at the entrance at 9.30am. Mrs Pierce & Mr Worsdale
