  2. This is a map with landforms on it.

  3. Archipelago(ar’ke pel’a go) An archipelago is a group or chain of islands clustered together in a sea or ocean.

  4. Bay • A bay is a body of water that is partly enclosed by land (and is usually smaller than a gulf).

  5. Gulf • A gulf is a part of the ocean (or sea) that is partly surrounded by land (it is usually larger than a bay). • (Such as the Gulf of Mexico).

  6. Island • An island is a piece of land completely surrounded by water. • Example:Cuba

  7. Isthmus(is’mus) • An isthmus is a narrow strip of land connecting two larger landmasses. • An isthmus has water on two sides.

  8. Lake • A lake is a large body of water surrounded by land on all sides. • Really huge lakes are often called seas. • Such as the 5 great lakes. • Can you name the 5 great lakes?

  9. Ocean • An ocean is a large body of salt water that surrounds a continent. • Oceans cover more than two-thirds of the Earth`s surface. • Examples: Pacific , Atlantic , Indian ,Artic Oceans

  10. Peninsula • A peninsula is a body of land that is surrounded by water on three sides. • Such as Florida.This picture is of Italy.

  11. River • A river is a large , flowing body water that usually empties into a sea or ocean. • Such as the Mississippi River

  12. Strait • A strait is a narrow body of water that connects two larger bodies of water. • Example:The Bering Strait

  13. Tributary • A tributary is a stream or river that flows into a larger river.
