Pre-requisites • At least 80 hours college course work (not including hours in physical education or military coursework) • AICE, IB, AP, and CLEP accepted • “Most pre-professional courses may be taken at any college, and it is highly recommended that they be taken in the context of an undergraduate major. No major is given preference in the admissions process.”

  3. Pre-requisites cont. • Pre-professional Requirements for Admission to the College of Veterinary Medicine.* • Biology -- a minimum of 15 semester credits including two semesters of Animal Biology or Zoology (lecture and laboratory), 1 semester of Genetics, and one semester of Microbiology (lecture and laboratory). • Chemistry -- a minimum of 19 semester credits including two semesters of Inorganic Chemistry (general and qualitative), (lecture and laboratory), 2 semesters of Organic Chemistry (lecture and laboratory), and 1 semester of Biochemistry. • Physics -- a minimum of 8 semester credits including 2 semesters of lecture and laboratory. • Mathematics -- a minimum of 6 semester credits. One semester of Calculus and 1 semester of Statistics. • Animal Science -- a minimum of 6 semester credits. One semester of Introduction to Animal Science and 1 semester of Animal Nutrition. • Humanities -- a minimum of 9 semester credits. • Social Science -- a minimum of 6 semester credits. • English -- a minimum of 6 semester credits, including two semesters of English Composition • Electives -- variable number to bring minimal total to 80 semester credits. • *Minor variations in credits may be accepted. The applicant must complete these courses by the end of the spring term in the year of admission.

  4. Basis of Selection • Residency -- Admission is limited to residents of the United States; priority will be given to Florida residents. Non-Florida residents with superior academic qualification and/or unique educational or personal backgrounds will be given consideration. • Academic Performance -- Evidence of superior scholastic achievement. • GRE Scores -- Graduate Record Examination. • Background and Experience -- Knowledge of the veterinary medical profession. Some type of animal care experience is highly desirable. • Evaluation Forms -- Evaluation of character and potential of applicant as a future veterinarian. Please use the evaluation forms provided on the Veterinary Medical College Application Service (VMCAS) website. • Extracurricular Activities -- Achievements, leadership ability, and participation in community activities. • Communicative Skill -- A brief statement from applicant concerning reasons for seeking admission to the College of Veterinary Medicine. • Personal Interview • Competitiveness -- In the case of repeated applications, there are no guarantees that an applicant who interviews one year will interview the next, or that pursuit of recommended experience and course work will guarantee success. The competitive quality of the applicant pool each year shapes the list of interviewees and successful candidates.

Statistics for Class 2007 (accepted 2003) • Total number of applicants: 695 • # of in state applicants accepted: 80 • # of out of state applicants accepted: 6 • Overall GPA (of final class): 3.54 • Science GPA: 3.46 • Last 45 hour GPA: 3.61 • GRE verbal: 532 • GRE quantitative: 658 • Total GRE score: 1190 • Applicants from 22 different majors were accepted, but over half of them were biology or animal science majors.
