Proposed criteria for selecting target districts • Districts which experience threats such as fires, pests. • Districts with presence of important biodiversity • Districts where cooperation with local villagers (e.g. on solar panels) can be most effective/successful • Districts where forest officers are open to adopt new approaches in biodiversity and carbon management • Total area of target districts proposed in the project has to be around 450,000 ha

  3. Data about districts General information: • Name, size, area • Forest cover (%), species, age structure • Ownership and forest use information

  4. Biodiversity data • Key biotopes/vegetation communities present • Key flora species • Key fauna species • Threats to species and habitats from fires, pests, logging, etc. • Monitoring of biodiversity

  5. Protected forest data According to METT: • Location, importance + 30 questions characterizing the current protection status and management level

  6. Carbon data - baseline Current (baseline) loss of carbon from: • illicit logging within the district • Fires • pests

  7. Loss of carbon under project scenario Project scenario: loss of carbon from: • illicit logging within the district • Fires • pests

  8. Calculating total project carbon benefit • Difference between Project and Baseline scenario • Plus expected sequestration dividends (if any tree species management, RIL or other carbon forest practices are implemented)

  9. Other elements important to sustaining carbon dividends • Description of concrete activities in concrete areas which will result in reduced GHG emissions • Permanence • Carbon Monitoring • Environmental and socio-economic effects • Benefits for local people • Involvement of women
