The French and Indian War was a pivotal conflict between British colonists and Native Americans allied with the French (1754-1763). The Treaty of Paris ended the war, forcing France to cede its lands east of the Mississippi River to Britain, while Spain received French territories west of the river. British victories caused economic strain on Native Americans, as they lost French allies and faced increased settlement in their lands. The Proclamation of 1763 aimed to curtail westward expansion, but angered colonists, leading to further tensions.
