Lengthy Process • Texaco entered Ecuador in 1964 • Plaintiffs first filed suit in 1993 • Texaco engaged • In 2001, US district court dismissed case • Chevron aqcuires Texaco • 2003, plaintiffs file suit in Ecuador • 2011, Chevron files suit against plaintiffs and lawyers for racketeering (prevents plaintiffs from enforcing favorable judgement outside their county)

  5. Also in 2011 • Judge Zambrano issues ruling of up to $18 billion payable by Chevron to plaintiffs • Other legal proceedings follow appealing and discoursing whether court findings are applicable in other countries • Chevron = 0 assets in Ecuador
