  1. 3rd Grade Reading By Objective Literary and Informational Text seem balanced in performance, but analysis shows that Literary Text combined with 19D needs to be addressed. Shona Besselman for Eastridge Elementary August 2013

  2. 4th Grade Reading By Objective Literary Text needs to be a campus focus for this year. We are ready to move to the next level with Reporting Categories 1 and 3! Shona Besselman for Eastridge Elementary August 2013

  3. 5th Grade Reading by Objective Literary Text is a strength Shona Besselman for Eastridge Elementary August 2013

  4. 3rd Grade Math by Objective Probability and Statistics is the lowest with a total of six questions. Numbers, Operations, and Quantitative Reasoning will continue to be our focus because of the numbers of questions – 15. Shona Besselman for Eastridge Elementary August 2013

  5. 4th Grade Math by Objective Geometry and Spatial Reasoning are clear strengths. Try to spiral Probability and Statistics throughout the year. Our focus will continue to be on Numbers, Operations, and Quantitative Reasoning for this year. Shona Besselman for Eastridge Elementary August 2013

  6. 5th Grade Math by Objective Our focus will remain with Numbers, Operations, and Quantitative Reasoning because of the number of questions associated with this TEK. Should Measurement be an RTI focus for this year? Shona Besselman for Eastridge Elementary August 2013

  7. 4th Grade Writing The majority of our time should be spent with Revising. This will improve our composition scores and will provide authentic texts for students to practice the Editing skills in context of their own ZPD. Shona Besselman for Eastridge Elementary August 2013

  8. 5th Grade Science Force, Motion, and Energy and Earth and Space are clear strengths. Our focus this year needs to be on Organisms and Environments. Shona Besselman for Eastridge Elementary August 2013

  9. Enrichment: Students: Provide aligned enrichment; extend learning. Teachers: • How can we refine our work? • How can we examine our data (including student work and formative assessments) to identify gaps in our instructional program? Students: • How does student work (daily tasks and assessments) inform our instructional decisions? (3 Stack Protocol) • What are the faces/names of the 10-20% not understanding the TEK? Shona Besselman for Eastridge Elementary August 2013

  10. Quadrant Three and Four Teachers: • How aligned is our curriculum? • Are student tasks aligned to the standard? • Are instructional practices and strategies aligned to rigor indicated in the standards? • Are core instructional materials being used in each classroom? • Are core instructional materials aligned to rigor indicated in the standards? Students: • How can these students spend more time in Collaborative and Independent Work? • Do student work products provide evidence of the rigor indicated in the standard? • What would move the student to a higher level of performance and understanding of the concept? • How are students synthesizing and articulating their understanding? Reading/Writing/Speaking/ Listening Shona Besselman for Eastridge Elementary August 2013

  11. Transfer Target: Teachers: • How aligned is our curriculum? • Are assessments aligned to the standards (content and process/DOK)? • Is there consistency among all classes (horizontally and vertically)? Students: • How can students experience items in novel ways to facilitate transfer of skills to new situations and question formats? • How will students express their understanding? Shona Besselman for Eastridge Elementary August 2013

  12. Quadrant One and Two Target :What is being taught? • Do all teachers understand the standards? Do all the teachers understand the instructional strategy? • Is every teacher teaching the standards (this grade, previous grade)? • Is there a teacher that has higher scores that indicate something was different with instruction in that class that we could learn from? • Which instructional strategies are not having the desired impact? What would be more effective? • Are teaching and learning objectives/targets evident to teachers and students? Students: • How can students receive more modeling and interactive work with the teacher? • What are the faces/names of the students in this category? Shona Besselman for Eastridge Elementary August 2013

  13. Curriculum Target: Teachers: What is being taught? • Do all teachers understand the standards? • Is every teacher teaching the standards (this grade, previous grade)? • How are teachers unpacking the objectives with students? • How is the objective addressed across the grade levels? Students: • Data indicates that students do not appear to understand the objective as it was tested. • How can students make and receive explicit connections to the objectives and their work? • What are the faces/names of the students in this category? Shona Besselman for Eastridge Elementary August 2013

  14. Drawingboard Target Teachers: • Neither students nor teachers appear to understand the skill, or it has not been taught. • Are these TEKS being taught? • Do we understand the TEKS? • Examine the released assessment or items to see if we misinterpreted the skill. • Does the scope and sequence need to be changed to allow more spiraling or review before the assessment? Students: • Data indicates that neither students nor teachers appear to understand the skill, or it has not been taught. • Are students responding to instruction? • What is interfering with student learning? • What are the faces/names of these students? • Have these students been referred to the SST? Shona Besselman for Eastridge Elementary August 2013

  15. Focus Standards • Use the Analyzing Learning Standards document from Knezekhttp://lead4ward.com/resources/ • Select 3 focus standards for each: • Focus Readiness Standards for students: Engage the Engage the Emerging • Focus Readiness Standards for Teachers: Learn the Low • Focus Process Standards Shona Besselman for Eastridge Elementary August 2013

  16. Focus Readiness Standards for Students: Engage the Emerging • We improved on these standards between 2012 STAAR and 2013 STAAR. • We need to look at how we can continue to improve on these standards by teaching them in novel ways that are memorable and engaging to students. • Engaging • Memorable • Multimodal • Novel • Sensory • Annotate changes on the unpacking form. Shona Besselman for Eastridge Elementary August 2013

  17. Focus Readiness Standards for Teachers: Learn the Low • We declined in these standards between 2012 STAAR and 2013 STAAR. • We need to look at how we taught these standards and match them to how they were assessed. • Make changes on the unpacking form. Shona Besselman for Eastridge Elementary August 2013

  18. Focus Process Standards: • These process standards are highly tested. • We need to make a plan to hit these in context with other TEKS every day, every unit. Shona Besselman for Eastridge Elementary August 2013

  19. Teacher Perception Data • Use the Perception Data forms from http://lead4ward.com/resources/ to determine which standards teachers reveal a mismatch between student performance and teacher perception about the difficulty of teaching and learning these skills.
