  1. How will the school cope with severe storms 2013? By Beth Awojobi And Shannon White

  2. Introduction This PowerPoint is going to show what we think the school’s plan should be if a major storm hits King Edward’s. Everyone would be stranded at school with no power and not enough food or supplies. The water pipes may burst, with no toilets flushing and trees might fall on telephone lines, so there would be no contact with builders or family. Also, no power means no heating. School work would probably become a minority in this situation, but even that would be hard to do because there wouldn’t be any electricity for screens or computers.

  3. What Will Happen?

  4. powercut No heating No contact Darkness No chargers

  5. Resolutions of a Powercut • We could use candles from the chapel, and various other places. We would have to be careful in the dark, with matches though. • The generator would keep us supplied with electricity for a little while. • We could put on more clothes instead of heating.

  6. Not enough Food Rationing No food deliveries to the people in the medical centre We only have enough food to feed the boarders for two full days and day pupils roughly just one day.

  7. Resolution for not enough food • Everyone would have to ration how much food they get. • All our meals would be cold. • We could use the café and Breakout supplies, and open up the vending machines. • Boarders could share out their tuck if they have lots.

  8. Trees Down Impacts • Power lines will be broken and pulled to the ground • No telephone wires will work, so no contact • It might be hard to get out, as trees may be blocking the doors • Small buildings, e.g. sheds or the pavilion may have trees fallen on

  9. Pipes Burst Water leakages everywhere and floods The water might melt the snow and turn it into ice Impacts Floods in the indoor toilets

  10. Medical overload More supplies needed e.g. bandages The ice packs will not be cold as there will be no place to freeze them Not enough beds Not enough staff/nurses on duty The doctor will not be able to come in the medicines will run out e.g. asthma inhaler

  11. recovery • Builders in to clear trees away. • Plumbers in to fix burst pipes properly. • Laundry would have to work extra time to wash all of the dirty clothes. • Pupils and staff will have to get in contact with their parents. • The chapel and other places will need more candles, because we will have used them all. • There would have to be more food orders than usual, as everyone would have barely any food.

  12. Video This is a video that we made outlining what we could do when a storm hits.
