  2. Directions Each slide will have a problem. You have 2 minutes to draw and label a diagram or diagrams that “tell the story” in a precise mathematical way. Do not solve the problems. After 2 minutes the slide will change.

  3. Problem 1 A 20’ ladder stands on level ground, and leans against a vertical wall. The base of the ladder is 4’ from the wall. How high is the top of the ladder above the ground?

  4. Problem 2 Two trucks leave the central office at the same time to survey storm damage. Truck 1 drives north at 40 miles per hour. Truck 2 drives east at 30 miles per hour. Find the distance between the trucks as a function of time, assuming they start at t=0 hours.

  5. Problem 3 A fish tank is 20” long, 12 high, and 10” wide. The fish tank is a quarter full. How many degrees can you tilt the tank by lifting up one end before water spills out. Assume the water does not slosh in the tank.

  6. Problem 4 A cylindrical trash barrel with diameter 24” has been blown over on its side by the wind. An ant starts at the bottom and crawls around the rim at .5” per second. Find the height of the ant above the ground as a function of time if it starts at the bottom at time t=0.

  7. Problem 5 A man stands on top of a dome building that is a perfect half-sphere. How far from the center of the base of the dome is the closest point on the ground that he can still see.
