  1. Carousel from flshow.net by Saverio Caminiti

  2. How to 1 First of all put all your images, the Carousel.swf and the configuration file default.xml in the same folder of your ppt presentation.

  3. How to 2 Edit the default.xml to make the photo list refer to your images. Eventually change options (such as background, speed, etc.) Tip: you can test the result simply dragging the Carousel.swf inside a browser window. It works with the majority of browser. IE block the active content, allow it.

  4. How to 3 Now embed the Carousel.swf inside your presentation. A tutorial on How to embed a Flash movie into PowerPoint is available at: http://www.amarasoftware.com/tutorials/importpowerpoint.html

  5. Remarks 1 If you want to change the background be sure to change it both in the xml file and in the custom property window of the embedded object (where you specify the name of the Carousel.swf file).

  6. Remark 2 You can specify a link for each image in the xml file. You can use any URL, even with CGI parameters (don’t forget to escape & according to xml spec). You can also specify local files (e.g., file:///c:/WINDOWS/clock.avi) and it will run the file or the appropriate application.

  7. Remarks 3 Theoretically it would be possible to have more different Carousel in the same ppt. It is enough to make different xml files. Then, for each embedded Carousel, specify which xml file it should use by flashvars (available in the property list of the embedded object). Unfortunately it doesn’t work for me. With my PP 2003 I can write inside the flashvars field (try typing a=1) but as soon as I leave the field everything disappear! This looks like a bug. I should complain with Microsoft about this.
