  1. Green Analysts Environmental issues play an even more minor role in analyst quotes than in general coverage. With some delay, analysts take up issues from the debate in general-interest media, but even at its peak less than 1 in 100 statements dealt with these issues. While analysts' comments on CSR issues and matters of corporate culture show positive potential, quotes on environmental issues emphasized the risks – primarily from a financial perspective. Most of the quotes did not refer to individual companies but referred to the impact of environmental policies on national economies. Astonishingly, the discussion of corporate social responsibility and corporate culture was also conducted on an abstract level. Analysts' quotes on environmental issues mirrored the global nature of the climate problem, but a huge share of the quotes dealt specifically with China, discussing the impact of Chinese growth on the environment and vice versa. 2. CSR and environment are niche topics, where consultancies and specialized research institutes thrive. In German outlets the leading economic think tanks DIW and IfW took part in the discussion. Strangely the debate of the environmental merits and disadvantages of mass mobilization has spilled over into the analyst quotes as well. For the automotive sector the share of environmental coverage even exceeds that of energy groups. 3. As climate change affects not only the business of energy groups that might suffer due to a change to renewables, but also the insurance business, negatively, analysts were rather gloomy on these sectors. Comments on automotive groups were rather balanced. Analysts did not often refer to individual companies when they discussed aspects of environmental policy and global change. Among the big groups that were addressed explicitly in analyst quotes, none of them met with support.
