There should be two strings of each color (total 8). The order to start is 1 2 3 4 4 3 2 1 1 = orange; 2 = blue; 3 = purple; 4 = pink. Start with the right-most string (orange). Bend it over the blue so the end is towards the center. Pull the end under and through the bend you just made. Using the same orange string make a forward knot (end pointing away from center) on the same blue string. The order should be the same as before.
