That was a main reason why he was chosen as Lincoln’s Vice Presidential running mate for the election of The impeachment trial of President Andrew Johnson took Place from March through May 1868, and it was the first time that a President was brought up on formal charges. Johnson had lost the confidence of the Radical Republican party. For each question, ask yourself, what is the evidence? Document 1 is a copy of the ticket used for admission to the trial. Why do you think this would have been a popular ticket? Document 1 Document 2is a picture of the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms serving the summons to President Johnson from Harper’s Weekly magazine. He was charged with violating the law by improperly removing Secretary of War Edwin Stanton.Describe what you think the mood or tone of the meeting was like.
