This study explores the concept of the "epileptic penumbra" within the framework of ischemic conditions. By examining the relationships between necrotic cores and the surrounding ischemic penumbra, the authors aim to improve our understanding of epilepsy and its underlying mechanisms. Using advanced T2-weighted imaging techniques and the assessment of relative cerebral blood volume (rCBV), this research from the University of Verona sheds light on potential neuroprotective strategies in epilepsy, aiding in the development of more effective therapeutic approaches for patients.
