Location of The Panama Canal • The Panama Canal is located at the Isthmus of Panama, in the city of Panama City, Panama, • Panama is located within the latitude and longitude of 09° 00 N, 80° 00 W • The Panama Canal’s Location is a manmade structure, which divides the continents of North America and South America • The fact that the Isthmus of Panama is a narrow piece of land dividing those two major continents provided the incentive to build a canal there, as an efficient route for ships to pass through. • The location of the Panama Canal allows ships to forfeit nearly 8000 miles (and approximately 30 days) of traveling around Cape Horn, the southern tip of South America.
