  1. Stations of the CrossLent 2014

  2. First Station (Mk 15:14-15) Pilate asked them, ‘Why, what evil has he done?’ But they shouted all the more, ‘Crucify him!’ So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released Barabbas for them; and after flogging Jesus, he handed him over to be crucified.

  3. Second Station (Is 53.5) But he was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities, upon him was the punishment that made us whole.

  4. Third Station (Is 50:6-7) I offered my back to those who beat me, I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting. The Lord God helps me, Therefore I will not be disgraced. Therefore have I set my face like flint, and I know I will not be put to shame.

  5. Fourth Station (Jn 19:25-27) Standing near the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple he loved standing beside her, he said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son. Then he said to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home.

  6. Fifth Station (LK 23:26-27) As they led him away, they seized a man, Simon of Cyrene, who was coming from the country, and they laid the cross on him, and made him carry it behind Jesus. A great number of the people followed him, and among them were women who were beating their breasts and wailing for him.

  7. Sixth Station (Mt 25:35-36, 40) For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.” And the king will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family,* you did it to me.”

  8. Seventh Station (Is 53:3) He was despised and rejected by all, A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem him.

  9. Eight Station (Lk 23:27-28) A large number of people followed him, including women who mourned and wailed for him. Jesus turned and said to them, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children.

  10. Ninth Station (Is 53:4) Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins!

  11. Tenth Station (Mk 15:22-24) Then they brought Jesusto the place called Golgotha (which means the place of a skull). And they offered him wine mixed with myrrh; but he did not take it. And they crucified him, and divided his clothes among them, casting lots to decide what each should take.

  12. Eleventh Station (Jn 19:18-20) There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, with Jesus between them. Pilate also had an inscription written and put on the cross. It read, ‘Jesus of Nazareth,the King of the Jews.’ Many of the Jews read this inscription, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew,in Latin, and in Greek.

  13. Twelfth Station (Lk 23:46) It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, while the sun’s light failed; and the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Then Jesus, crying with a loud voice said, “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.” Having said this, he breathed his last.

  14. Thirteenth Station (Mk 15:42-45) When evening had come, and since it was the day of Preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath, Joseph of Arimathea, a respected member of the council, who was also himself waiting expectantly for the kingdom of God, went boldly to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate wondered if he were already dead; and summoning the centurion, he asked him whether he had been dead for some time. When he learned from the centurion that he was dead, he granted the body to Joseph.

  15. Fourteenth Station (Mk 15:46-47) Then Josephbought a linen cloth, and taking down the body, wrapped it in the linen cloth, and laid it in a tomb that had been hewn out of the rock. He then rolled a stone against the door of the tomb. Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Jesus saw where the body was laid.
