ISSUES • Peru has a concentrated HIV epidemic in MSM • Lima: HIV prevalence in MSM is 22% • VCT: main strategy for preventing HIV • MSM reported lower percentage of condom use with women compared to men (17% vs. 25%) • Geographical barriers, cultural barriers Sánchez J, et al . PROYECT SOMOS(Optimal Services to Improve Opportunities in Health) • Improve access of the gay, bisexual and trans (GBT) community to services of counseling, diagnosis and early treatment for HIV. • Improve the quality of services that the governmental referral centers for HIV and STI provide to the GBT community.   5. DESCRIPTION • VCT through a mobile van • Reach MSM who do not have access to health care services at: • Gay venues • Saunas, parks, discotheques, dark rooms, bars, night clubs • Poor areas where MSM live: immigrant indigenous communities • Peak times of activity / mostly at night

  6. DESCRIPTION • Multidisciplinary team • Results given within 20 minutes • Why give the result in the same place? • Managing a positive result • Engaging HIV+ people into the system that provides free HAART

  16. LESSONS LEARNED • Accessible venue and accessible hours • Important number of non-gay identified MSM • Emotional management: key strategy • Coordination with local authorities (sustainability) • Participation in events (visibility) • Non advertise the mobile as a Gay unit

  17. NEXT STEPS • Transfer this model to local government • Assess whether other vulnerable groups can benefit it. • Synergies with other organizations
