  2. Pinetree Students • Students who are interested in getting their "Occupational First Aid - Level 1" certification can do so this Friday, April 11 (district Pro-D day). The all-day (8.30am - 4.00pm) course is offered in Burnaby and is only $70. Class is limited to 18 students. Must have government issued photo ID (ex: driver's license, passport...). Those interested can contact Mr. MacLean at Winslow Centre by phone (604-341-8977) or email (dmaclean@sd43.bc.ca) to sign-up.

  4. DISTRICT SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION- Community Service • Scholarship Opportunity valued at $1000 for Grade 12 students who can demonstrate exceptional school and local community involvement. Please see Ms. Johal for an application.

BCIT Pathway to Success Awards • Value: $3,000 (3 awards) • Criteria: Have applied to BCIT • Application: See two attached documents for more info and application form or see Ms. Johal or Ms. Moorhouse in counselling. • Deadline: Completed applications to Ms. Moorhouse or Ms. Johal by Tuesday, April 15, 2014

  6. The Jim Hebden Chemistry Bursary • Value: $500 • Eligibility: You must have or will complete Chemistry 12 by the end of June 2014 and can demonstrate plans to continue the study of chemistry at a recognized post-secondary institution, whether it be toward a chemistry degree • or in a field related to chemistry such as nursing or engineering. • Criteria: The award will be given to a student who has performed services to his/her school community, • demonstrated a proficiency in chemistry and can show significant financial need. • Deadline to Apply: April 30, 2014 • Application: www.westerncampus.ca

  7. Intro to Leadership Applications! • If you included "Intro to Leadership" in your course selection form for next year, there is an application process! If you haven't already, pick up an application form in A212. The deadline is THURSDAY APRIL 10

CTA Roy Krutow Scholarship • If you are a graduating student going on to post-secondary and you are the child of a teacher (CTA member currently working in School District #43 or at time retirement/death), you are eligible to apply.   9. Village of Anmore 'Hal Weinberg Scholarship' • If you are a graduating student going on to post-secondary and are a resident of Anmore, see attached for an application and information or see Ms. Moorhouse. • Value: $1,000 • Deadline to Apply: May 2, 2014

Experience University Life at UBC - A Summer Opportunity • For younger high school students starting to think about university and their future careers, UBC Continuing Studies is offering Experience University Life at UBC (EUL), • a summer pre-university program for 15- to 18-year-old high school students from around the world.   14. Beachkeeper Summer Volunteer Opportunity at Belcarra • No previous experience necessary. The volunteer position involves three main activities: a scientific crab study on the dock; educating park visitors about intertidal creatures such as crabs and sea stars; and explaining fishing regulations and beach etiquette to park visitors. • Volunteer on weekends and holidays between June 28 to Sept. 1, 2014.   16. PERFORMERS WANTED • Have a knack or talent you would like to share? The Me to We Club is looking for students to perform at its Multicultural Night on Friday, April 25. Various talents (singing, martial arts, lightsaber combat, etc.) are welcomed. Sign-up on Facebook at "Pinetree Multicultural Night Performers" by Sunday, April 14.

  17. VOW OF SILENCE • On Thursday, April 17, stand up for everyone bullied, exploited, or denied their rights and remain silent for the Vow of Silence, hosted by Pinetree Me to We.   20. Junior Badminton team • Congratulations to our Junior Badminton team for playing with heart and determination in their league matches on Thursday night. Our T-Wolves defeated Heritage Woods and narrowly lost to Gleneagle. Our team looks forward to redeeming the loss in the upcoming championship tournaments.

  22. Jr. Boys Basketball • Would all members of the Jr. Boys Basketball Team please return their clean uniforms to Mr. Jack in the PE Office.

  23. TALENT SHOW AUDITIONS • The 5TH Annual Talent Show is coming up! First place wins $250, second place wins $150 and one crowd favourite will win $150. Sign up for a chance to audition for the show by emailingcentbusinessclub@gmail.com. The last day to sign up is April 9th. and the auditions will be held from April 10-11th at Centennial.

  24. First nations students- lunch Meeting • First Nations students are invited to join Ms Starr and Lori for a meeting in Room A100 at lunch on Wednesday. We have Tanya from Douglas College and Angela from SFU - as well as pizza and banock at the meeting ! please join us:)

  25. Students of the Week • Alex Lin and Chad Ly (Gr 11) • Mr. Wazny would like to recognize these fearless PE 11 leaders as they strive to give 100% in every sport and every play. They play like warriors never backing down from any opponent yet they display sportsmanship, leadership, and great athletic ability.

  26. Students of the Week • Dominic Munroe (Gr 11) • Mr. Wazny appreciates the help of Donimic and ManmeetPaur in PE 11. They are usually the first and last to leave the class, and they help with the equipment. As well, Mr. Wazny has seen a big improvement in their performance and effort in class. Keep up the good work!

  27. Student of the Week • Sherry Liin (Gr 9) • Extremely reliable and hardworking, Sherry alwasy does an excellent job volunteering in the library each week. Ms. Chartrand and Ms. Ikeda appreciate her help!

  28. Students of the Week • Beatrice Kan and Christina Hu (Gr 12) • These students were wonderful at setting up and hosting an assembly involving Olympian Darcy Marquardt. Their assistance was greatly appreciated by Ms. Babson

  29. DRAMA DEPARTMENT FUNDRAISER • DRAMA DEPARTMENT FUNDRAISER TALENT SHOW • Auditions will be Tuesday April 8th and Thursday April 10th. after school. Talent show will be Thursday, May 1st. $5.
