Southwest Gallaudet University Regional Center at Austin Community College • GURC-SW offers programs, courses & workshops for Deaf/Hard of Hearing People, their Families, and the Professionals who work with them. • GURC-SW is the only Regional Center that offers a 2 + 2 agreement program to take ACC classes for credit & transfer. • Serves an 8-State region: Utah, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana

  17. Deaf TEC Goals 1. Learn about Deaf/ASL Culture 2. Understand the student’s perspective of access 3. Learn about potential pitfalls and perils while lecturing in the classroom 4. Create a personal plan for classroom strategies 5. Learn about classroom support services

DeafTEC Workshops Project Access Working Together A WORKSHOP DESIGNED TO HELP EMPLOYERS UNDERSTAND DEAF CULTURE, COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY WITH DEAF AND HARD-OF-HEARING EMPLOYEES, AND DEVELOP THE SENSITIVITY AND SKILLS FOR COLLEAGUES TO WORK TOGETHER SUCCESSFULLY. • A WORKSHOP DESIGNED TO HELP FACULTY UNDERSTAND DEAF CULTURE AND ADAPT THEIR TEACHING STYLE TO FOSTER BETTER LEARNING FOR DEAF AND HARD-OF-HEARING STUDENTS, AS WELL AS ALL OTHER STUDENTS.

DeafTEC Class Act • Site Includes: • Challenges faced by faculty members and strategies for addressing the challenges • A discussion board for teachers • A page of additional links to short videotapes with direct comments from students who face issues daily • A page of videos of faculty with comments on their experiences
