TECHNICALITIES • 4-5 students (4-5 roles), c. 15 min. • book your slot (19-24 March, office door) • Before the meeting: 1.propose a topic to TSA, 2. do the script (phrases!), clear roles (equal participation of all the members of the team), 3.rehearsal! (team work) • During the meeting: unexpected turns possible – be natural! • Memo, agenda, minutes (to submit to TSA) • Assessment: a) language b) structure c) content d) businesslike manner

  3. STRUCTURE → signalling devices, (language functions) 1. opening (greeting, welcoming+, introducing participants, objectives, procedure, agenda, timing and output) 2. discussion (incl.mini-presentation?) (each participant) chairperson: moderating, controlling, summarising, ... participants: interrupting, agreeing, disagreeing, summarising, making suggestions, putting pressure... 3. concluding and closing (chairperson: summarising, defining action points, closing) PHRASES TYPICALLY USED IN MEETINGS!

  4. LANGUAGE • as many target phrases as possible (c.5 per participant), diversephrases • business terms • Appropriate stlye (downtoning, formal expressions, ...) • clear articulation • reasonably good grammar and pronunciation

  5. CONTENT AND “BUSINESSLIKE MANNER” Content – should sound competent: -course knowledge -general knowledge Professional manner: tone of voice, eye-contact and rapport, overall conduct, ...
