Global Communities Operating Board • The Board on Global Communities shall guide the geographic activities of the Knowledge and Community Sector • Voting members of the Global Communities Operating Board: • Ten members – appointed, non-elected positions • Vice President of Global Communities • Non-voting members of the GCOB: • Liaison to K&C Technical Communities Operating Board • Liaison to K&C Programs & Activities Board • Representative to Centers Sector • Liaison to K&C Representation and Governance Committee • Treasurer and Liaison to K&C Financial Operations Board • Liaison to Affinity Communities Operating Board • Honours and Awards • Training • Global Communities Staff Support • These positions may be assigned to voting members or appointed individuals

  5. Global Communities Operating Board • The Global Communities VP is proposed to the Society by the ASME Nominating Committee for a term of 3 years • The GCOB will meet twice a year, at two of these occasions: • Summer Annual Meeting • IMECE • LTC

District Operating Board • The Board shall • encourage, coach and stimulate local units to provide value • to local members • evaluate the performance of each unit • determine need for consolidation, revitalization or dissolution • help local units to provide programs (PD, industry relations, fundraising) • support to student sections (SLTS) • The District Leader will be a member of the GCOB • District Leaders are nominated from within each district by means of an election process • The DOB shall meet at least once a year face to face and several times by teleconference

District Operating Board • A District Budget Allocation Request will be prepared by the DL and the Administrative Chair or Treasurer, working with the GC liaison to the K&C Board on Financial Operations • The DOB shall prepare within two years from May 2006: • District By-Laws • Business procedures • Financial procedures • Elections • Maintenance of key records and documents • District Operation Guide • Best practices • Instructions for conduction of District activities

District Operating Board Core Roles and Responsibilities • District Leader • Chair the DOB • Advocacy for member units • Identify and train future leaders • Support and promote the Society’s goals • Represent the District on the GCOB • Identify and stimulate district integrating activities • Identify and stimulate activities that join technical communities and • district units • Ensure that the DOB receives annually the necessary resources to • accomplish its responsibilities • Administration Group Chair • Take DOB minutes • Keeping track of action items • Follow up with section officers to register for events • Keep district financial accounts

District Operating Board Core Roles and Responsibilities • Communications Group Chair • Web page / newsletter • Community of Practice: establishment and maintenance • Maintain and make available contact information for • section leaders • student section leaders • student section advisors • ME Department Heads • Recognition and Awards Group Chair • Charles T Main Award • Student Section Advisor Award • Dedicated Service Award • Other types of recognition and awards for volunteers in the district/units

A Structure for District H • Council of ‘wise persons’ to set rules for ESDA • Money for District H and local section • Guidelines for organization • Inclusion / exclusion of subjects • Business model • Liaison with specific technical communities • Division sponsorship for technical tracks, workshops etc. • Liaison with appropriate ASME staff to design business models for events • Technical committees • Energy – Francesco, Vittorio, Flavio ..... • Applied mechanics ? Others ?
